‘ My father made me swear an oath and said,“ I am about to die; bury me in the tomb I dug for myself in the land of Canaan.” Now let me go up and bury my father; then I will return.’”

‘ My father made me give my word to him. He said,“ I’m about to die. Bury me in the tomb I dug for myself in the land of Canaan.” So let me go there and bury my father. Then I’ll come back.’ ”

葬在大衛城自己所鑿的墳墓裏。人把他放在床上，床上堆滿各樣馨香的香料，就是按做香的作法調和的香料，又為他生一堆大火誌哀。

『你在這裏憑甚麼？你在這裏靠誰？竟敢在這裏為自己鑿墳墓，在高處為自己鑿墳墓，在巖石中為自己挖安身之所！

然後把他安放在自己的新墓穴裏，就是他鑿在巖石裏的。他又把大石頭滾到墓門口，然後離開。

以色列的死期快到了，就叫了他兒子約瑟來，對他說：「我若在你眼前蒙恩，把你的手放在我大腿底下，以慈愛和誠實向我承諾，必不將我葬在埃及。我與我祖先同睡的時候，你要將我帶出埃及，把我葬在他們所葬的地方。」約瑟說：「我必遵照你的吩咐去做。」雅各說：「你向我起誓吧！」約瑟就向他起了誓。於是以色列在床頭敬拜。

他又對另一個人說：「來跟從我！」那人說：「主啊，容許我先回去埋葬我的父親。」耶穌對他說：「讓死人埋葬他們的死人，你只管去傳講上帝的國。」

他又吩咐他們說：「我快要歸到我祖先那裏。你們要將我葬在赫人以弗崙田間的洞裏，與我的祖先在一處，就是在迦南地幔利對面的麥比拉田間的洞裏，那田是亞伯拉罕向赫人以弗崙買來作墳地的產業。

又有一個門徒對耶穌說：「主啊，容許我先回去埋葬我的父親。」耶穌說：「讓死人埋葬他們的死人。你跟從我吧！」

人若生一百個兒子，活許多歲數；他即使壽命很長，心裏卻不因福樂而滿足，又不得埋葬；我說，那流掉的胎比他倒好。

人怕高處，路上有驚慌；杏樹開花，蚱蜢成為重擔，慾望不再挑起；因為人歸他永遠的家，弔喪的在街上往來。

以色列又對約瑟說：「看哪，我快要死了，但上帝必與你們同在，領你們回到你們祖先之地。

掃羅對約拿單說：「你告訴我，你做了甚麼事？」約拿單說：「我只是用手中的杖，以杖頭蘸了一點蜜嘗嘗，看哪，我就要死嗎？」

約瑟對他的兄弟說：「我快要死了，但上帝必定看顧你們，領你們從這地上去，到他起誓應許給亞伯拉罕、以撒、雅各之地。」

你必汗流滿面才有食物可吃，直到你歸了土地，因為你是從土地而出的。你本是塵土，仍要歸回塵土。」

我知道你要使我歸於死亡，到那為眾生所定的陰宅。

塵土仍歸於地，像原來一樣，氣息仍歸於賜氣息的上帝。

耶路撒冷的周圍流出他們的血如水，無人埋葬。

我只好死在這地，不能過約旦河；但你們必過去得那美地。
