我父曾命我曰、當立誓、我死後、必葬我於迦南地所備之墓、今求容我往彼、葬父而返、

‘ My father made me swear an oath and said,“ I am about to die; bury me in the tomb I dug for myself in the land of Canaan.” Now let me go up and bury my father; then I will return.’”

Tell him that my father made me swear an oath. He said to me,‘ Listen, I am about to die. Take my body back to the land of Canaan, and bury me in the tomb I prepared for myself.’ So please allow me to go and bury my father. After his burial, I will return without delay.”

and laid it in his own new tomb, which he had cut out in the rock; and he rolled a large stone against the entrance of the tomb and went away.

When the time for Israel to die drew near, he called his son Joseph and said to him,“ Please, if I have found favor in your sight, place your hand under my thigh now and deal with me in kindness and faithfulness: please do not bury me in Egypt,but when I lie down with my fathers, you shall carry me out of Egypt and bury me in their burial place.” And he said,“ I will do as you have said.”And he said,“ Swear to me.” So he swore to him. Then Israel bowed in worship at the head of the bed.

And He said to another,“ Follow Me.” But he said,“ Lord, permit me first to go and bury my father.”But He said to him,“ Allow the dead to bury their own dead; but as for you, go and proclaim everywhere the kingdom of God.”

Then he commanded them and said to them,“ I am about to be gathered to my people; bury me with my fathers in the cave that is in the field of Ephron the Hittite,in the cave that is in the field of Machpelah, which is opposite Mamre, in the land of Canaan, which Abraham bought along with the field from Ephron the Hittite as a burial site.

And another of the disciples said to Him,“ Lord, allow me first to go and bury my father.”But Jesus* said to him,“ Follow Me, and let the dead bury their own dead.”

If a man fathers a hundred children and lives many years, however many they may be, but his soul is not satisfied with good things and he does not even have a proper burial, then I say,“ Better the miscarriage than he,

Furthermore, people are afraid of a high place and of terrors on the road; the almond tree blossoms, the grasshopper drags itself along, and the caper berry is ineffective. For man goes to his eternal home while the mourners move around in the street.

Then Israel said to Joseph,“ Behold, I am about to die, but God will be with you, and bring you back to the land of your fathers.

So Saul said to Jonathan,“ Tell me what you have done.” And Jonathan told him, and said,“ I did indeed taste a little honey with the end of the staff that was in my hand. Here I am, I must die!”

Joseph said to his brothers,“ I am about to die, but God will assuredly take care of you and bring you up from this land to the land which He promised on oath to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.”

By the sweat of your face You shall eat bread, Until you return to the ground, Because from it you were taken; For you are dust, And to dust you shall return.”

For I know that You will bring me to death, And to the house of meeting for all living.

then the dust will return to the earth as it was, and the spirit will return to God who gave it.

They have poured out their blood like water all around Jerusalem; And there was no one to bury them.

For I am going to die in this land; I am not crossing the Jordan, but you are going to cross, and you will take possession of this good land.
