約瑟死了，正一百一十歲：人用香料灌他的屍體，放在木乃伊棺材裏，停在埃及。

人把他埋葬在他自己的墳墓裏，他在大衛城為自己所開掘的。人先把他安放在床上；那床堆滿着香料和各種香物、按作香物者的作法所配合成的；人們又為他舉行了非常大的焚燒禮。

過了安息日，抹大拉的馬利亞和雅各的母親馬利亞、跟撒羅米，就買了香料，要去抹耶穌。

又有尼哥底母、先前夜裏來見耶穌的、也來了，帶着沒藥和沉香的混合品、約有一百磅。他們領了耶穌的身體，就用細麻布加上香料綁好，照猶太人豫備安葬的規矩辦。

她將這香膏倒在我身體上，是為了豫備安葬我的事而作的。

她所能的、她作了；她豫先拿香膏抹了我的身體，是要豫備安葬我的事。

耶穌就說：『由她吧！難道要讓她把這東西留着，以備安葬我的日子的用處麼？

安息週的第一日、大清早、那些婦女才帶着所豫備的香料，來到塋墓前。
