耶和華從天上察看世人，要看看有明慧的沒有，有尋求神的沒有。人人都偏離了正道，一同變成污穢；沒有行善的，連一個也沒有。

我們從前也都和他們在一起，放縱肉體的私慾，隨著肉體和心意所喜好的去行；我們與別人一樣，生來都是可怒的兒女。

這樣在神面前，人怎能稱為義呢？婦人所生的，怎能算為潔淨呢？

正好像罪藉著一個人入了世界，死又是從罪來的，所以死就臨到所有人，因為所有人都犯了罪。

誰能使潔淨出於污穢呢？無人有此本事。

看哪，我是在罪孽裡生的；我母親在罪中懷了我。

從肉身生的就是肉身，從靈生的就是靈。
