因着信，約瑟臨終的時候提到以色列人將來要出埃及，並為自己的骸骨留下遺言。

義人死亡，無人放在心上；虔誠的人被接去，無人理解；義人被接去，以免禍患。行為正直的人進入平安，得以在床上安歇。

於是雅各下了埃及，後來他和我們的祖宗都死在那裏；

以實瑪利一生的歲數是一百三十七歲，斷氣而死，歸到他祖先那裏。

以撒年紀老邁，安享天年，息勞而終，歸到他祖先那裏。他兩個兒子以掃和雅各把他安葬了。

但壯士一死就消逝了；人一氣絕，他在何處呢？

我知道你要使我歸於死亡，到那為眾生所定的陰宅。

有名字記錄在天上眾長子的盛會，有審判眾人的神和成為完全的義人的靈魂，

這些人都是存着信心死的，並沒有得着所應許的，卻從遠處觀望，且歡喜迎接。他們承認自己在地上是客旅，是寄居的。說這樣話的人是表明自己要尋找一個家鄉。他們若想念所離開的家鄉，還有回去的機會。其實他們所羨慕的是一個更美的，就是在天上的家鄉。所以，神並不因他們稱他為神而覺得羞恥，因為他已經為他們預備了一座城。

於是耶和華帶他到外面，說：「你向天觀看，去數星星，你能數得清嗎？」又對他說：「你的後裔將要如此。」

但他的弓仍舊堅硬，他的手臂靈活敏捷，這是因雅各的大能者的手，從那裏，他是以色列的牧者，以色列的磐石。你父親的神必幫助你；全能者必賜福給你：天上的福，深淵下面蘊藏的福，以及生育哺養的福。你父親的福勝過我祖先的福，直到永世山嶺的極限。這些福必降在約瑟的頭上，臨到那與兄弟有分別之人的頭頂上。

你必壽高年邁才歸墳墓，好像禾捆按時收藏。

「主啊，如今可以照你的話，容你的僕人安然去世；

約書亞對眾百姓說：「看哪，這石頭可以向我們作見證，因為它聽見了耶和華所吩咐我們的一切話；這石頭將向你們作見證，免得你們背叛你們的神。」於是約書亞解散百姓，各自回到自己的地業去了。這些事以後，耶和華的僕人，嫩的兒子約書亞死了，那時他一百一十歲。

雅各叫了他的兒子來，說：「你們都來聚集，讓我把你們日後要遇到的事告訴你們。
