雅各便下埃及去，他自己和我們的祖宗都死在那裏；

以實瑪利一生的年日是一百三十七歲；他氣絕而死，就被收殮歸他先族人。

以撒年紀老邁，歲數滿足，氣絕而死，被收殮歸他先族人；他的兒子以掃雅各把他埋葬了。

但人死了就過去；人一氣絕，究竟在哪裏呢？

因為我知道你必使我歸回死地，到那為眾生所定的陰間聚宅。

有名錄在天上諸首生者的歡樂盛會或總聚會、有審判主、萬人的上帝、有已得完全的義人之靈、

這些人都是存着信心而死，沒有領受所應許的，乃是遠遠望見而致敬，承認自己在地上是旅客是寄居的。說這樣話的人是顯出自己在切求着一個家鄉。假使他們是想念着所離開的家鄉，總還有機會可以折回去的。其實呢、他們是希求一個較好的、就是天上的。故此上帝稱為他們的上帝、也不以為恥；因為他已經給他們豫備了一座城了。

就領他出去到外邊，說：『你望着天，數數眾星，看能數得過來不能。』又對他說：『你的後裔就要這樣。』

但他的弓仍然堅硬；他的手臂強健敏捷，這是因着雅各之大能者的手；（以色列的牧者、以色列的石頭是從那裏而出的，）因着你父親的上帝——他必幫助你，因着全能的上帝——他必賜福與你：必將上面來的天福，將伏於地底下的淵泉之福，將胸哺胎生之福、都賜給你。你父親所祝的福大有能力，勝過遠古之山，所施的福、和永遠之岡陵可愛之物：願這些福降到約瑟頭上，到那在弟兄中做王子者的頭頂上。

你必年老不衰而歸墳墓，像禾捆到時堆積起來。

『主宰啊，照你應許的話、如今你釋放你奴僕安然而去了；

約書亞對眾民說：『看哪，這塊石頭可以對我們作證，因為它聽見了永恆主同我們所說的一切話；所以這塊石頭要對你們作證，免得你們否認你們的上帝。』於是約書亞打發了人民各歸自己的地業去。這些事以後，永恆主的僕人嫩的兒子約書亞死了，那時他是一百一十歲。

雅各把他的兒子們叫來，說：『你們要聚集攏來，我好把你們日後所要遇見的事告訴你們；
