When Jacob had finished giving instructions to his sons, he drew his feet up into the bed, breathed his last and was gathered to his people.

他又囑咐他們說：「我將要歸到我列祖那裏，你們要將我葬在赫人以弗崙田間的洞裏，與我祖我父在一處，

亞伯拉罕壽高年邁，氣絕而死，歸到他列祖那裏。

塵土仍歸於地，靈仍歸於賜靈的神。

約瑟因着信，臨終的時候，提到以色列族將來要出埃及，並為自己的骸骨留下遺命。

義人死亡，無人放在心上；虔誠人被收去，無人思念。這義人被收去是免了將來的禍患；他們得享平安。素行正直的，各人在墳裏安歇。

於是雅各下了埃及，後來他和我們的祖宗都死在那裏；

以實瑪利享壽一百三十七歲，氣絕而死，歸到他列祖那裏。

以撒年紀老邁，日子滿足，氣絕而死，歸到他列祖那裏。他兩個兒子以掃、雅各把他埋葬了。

但人死亡而消滅；他氣絕，竟在何處呢？

我知道要使我臨到死地，到那為眾生所定的陰宅。

有名錄在天上諸長子之會所共聚的總會，有審判眾人的神和被成全之義人的靈魂，

這些人都是存着信心死的，並沒有得着所應許的；卻從遠處望見，且歡喜迎接，又承認自己在世上是客旅，是寄居的。說這樣話的人是表明自己要找一個家鄉。他們若想念所離開的家鄉，還有可以回去的機會。他們卻羨慕一個更美的家鄉，就是在天上的。所以神被稱為他們的神，並不以為恥，因為他已經給他們預備了一座城。

於是領他走到外邊，說：「你向天觀看，數算眾星，能數得過來嗎？」又對他說：「你的後裔將要如此。」

但他的弓仍舊堅硬；他的手健壯敏捷。這是因以色列的牧者，以色列的磐石－就是雅各的大能者。你父親的神必幫助你；那全能者必將天上所有的福，地裏所藏的福，以及生產乳養的福，都賜給你。你父親所祝的福勝過我祖先所祝的福，如永世的山嶺，至極的邊界；這些福必降在約瑟的頭上，臨到那與弟兄迥別之人的頂上。

你必壽高年邁才歸墳墓，好像禾捆到時收藏。

主啊！如今可以照你的話，釋放僕人安然去世；

約書亞對百姓說：「看哪，這石頭可以向我們作見證；因為是聽見了耶和華所吩咐我們的一切話，倘或你們背棄你們的神，這石頭就可以向你們作見證。」於是約書亞打發百姓各歸自己的地業去了。這些事以後，耶和華的僕人嫩的兒子約書亞，正一百一十歲，就死了。

雅各叫了他的兒子們來，說：「你們都來聚集，我好把你們日後必遇的事告訴你們。
