没有人关心义人的死亡，没有人明白虔诚人的去世。其实义人去世是脱离灾难。这些正直的人得享平安，在坟墓里得到安息。

从此以后，雅各和其他先祖们便定居埃及，直到去世。

以实玛利活了一百三十七岁，寿终正寝，归到他祖先那里。

年纪老迈，寿终正寝。他的儿子以扫和雅各把他安葬了。

但人一死，就失去力量；人一咽气，就不知去向。

我知道你要带我去死亡之地，那是你为众生所定的归宿。

这里有名字记录在天上的众长子的教会，有审判众人的上帝和已达到纯全的义人的灵魂，

这些人到死都满怀信心。他们虽然没有得到上帝所应许的，却从远处望见了，就欢喜快乐，承认自己在世上不过是寄居的异乡人。他们抱这样的态度，表明他们正在寻找一个家乡。如果他们想念的是自己离开的家乡，就找机会回去了。然而，他们渴慕的是天上更美的家乡。所以，上帝不以被他们称为上帝为耻，因为祂已经为他们预备了一座城。

耶和华把亚伯兰带到外面，对他说：“你抬头看看天空，数数繁星，你能数得尽吗？你的后裔必这么多。”

但他手持强弓，双臂稳健有力，因为雅各的大能者——以色列的牧者和磐石帮助他。你父亲的上帝必帮助你，全能者必赐你天上的恩泽、地上的百福，使你子孙兴旺、牛羊满圈。你父亲的祝福高过亘古永存的峰峦，多如绵延无尽的群山，愿这一切的祝福都临到约瑟头上，临到这超越众弟兄的人身上。

你必寿终正寝才归坟墓，如同庄稼熟后才被收割。

“主啊，现在你的话已经成就，可以让你的奴仆安然离世了，

然后，他对民众说：“看啊，这块石头可以为我们作证，它听到了耶和华所吩咐我们的话。如果你们背弃上帝，它必作证。”于是，约书亚命民众各自返回自己的地方。后来，耶和华的仆人、嫩的儿子约书亚去世了，享年一百一十岁。
