大衛是猶大伯利恆的以法他人耶西的兒子，耶西有八個兒子。在掃羅的時候，這人年老，在眾人中受敬重。

你今日離開我之後，會在便雅憫境內的謝撒，靠近拉結的墳墓，遇見兩個人。他們會對你說：『你要找的幾匹母驢已經找到了。看哪，你父親不為驢子的事掛慮，反為你擔憂，說：我為兒子該做些甚麼呢？』

伯利恆的以法他啊，你在猶大諸城中雖小，將來必有一位從你那裏出來，在以色列中為我作掌權者；他的根源自亙古，從太初就有。

以撒四十歲時娶利百加為妻。利百加是巴旦‧亞蘭地的亞蘭人彼土利的女兒，是亞蘭人拉班的妹妹。

以法蓮山區有一個拉瑪的瑣非人，名叫以利加拿，他是蘇弗的玄孫，託戶的曾孫，以利戶的孫子，耶羅罕的兒子，是以法蓮人。
