Do you see any truly competent workers? They will serve kings rather than working for ordinary people.

He chose capable men from all over Israel and appointed them as leaders over the people. He put them in charge of groups of one thousand, one hundred, fifty, and ten.

And you may live among us; the land is open to you! Settle here and trade with us. And feel free to buy property in the area.”

But those who paid no attention to the word of the Lord left theirs out in the open.

the hand of the Lord will strike all your livestock— your horses, donkeys, camels, cattle, sheep, and goats— with a deadly plague.But the Lord will again make a distinction between the livestock of the Israelites and that of the Egyptians. Now Doeg the Edomite, Saul’s chief herdsman, was there that day, having been detained before the Lord.

Shitrai from Sharon was in charge of the cattle on the Sharon Plain. Shaphat son of Adlai was responsible for the cattle in the valleys.Obil the Ishmaelite was in charge of the camels. Jehdeiah from Meronoth was in charge of the donkeys.Jaziz the Hagrite was in charge of the king’s flocks of sheep and goats. All these officials were overseers of King David’s property.

So they took soot from a brick kiln and went and stood before Pharaoh. As Pharaoh watched, Moses threw the soot into the air, and boils broke out on people and animals alike.

Then Abimelech said,“ Look over my land and choose any place where you would like to live.”

He also constructed forts in the wilderness and dug many water cisterns, because he kept great herds of livestock in the foothills of Judah and on the plains. He was also a man who loved the soil. He had many workers who cared for his farms and vineyards, both on the hillsides and in the fertile valleys.

Then get your father and all of your families, and return here to me. I will give you the very best land in Egypt, and you will eat from the best that the land produces.’”Then Pharaoh said to Joseph,“ Tell your brothers,‘ Take wagons from the land of Egypt to carry your little children and your wives, and bring your father here.Don’t worry about your personal belongings, for the best of all the land of Egypt is yours.’”

Joseph replied,“ Since your money is gone, bring me your livestock. I will give you food in exchange for your livestock.”

The king’s heart is like a stream of water directed by the Lord; he guides it wherever he pleases.
