按着定命，人人都有一死，死后还有审判。

以致可以永远活着，不进坟墓。

谁能长生不死？谁能救自己脱离死亡的权势呢？（细拉）

人若死了，还能复生吗？我要在劳苦的岁月中等待，直到我得释放的日子来临。

从此以后，雅各和其他先祖们便定居埃及，直到去世。后来他们的遗体被带回示剑，安葬在亚伯拉罕买自哈抹子孙的墓地里。

约瑟临终之时凭信心提到以色列人将来要离开埃及，并交代要如何处理自己的骸骨。

人都难免一死，就像覆水难收。然而，上帝不是要夺取人的性命，而是要设法使流亡的人重新回来。

因为死去的人不会记得你，谁会在阴间赞美你呢？

你必汗流满面，才有饭吃，一直到你归回尘土。因为你是尘土造的，也必归回尘土。”

我知道你要带我去死亡之地，那是你为众生所定的归宿。

雅各回答说：“我在世上寄居一百三十年了，我的日子又苦又短，不像我祖先那样高寿。”

你寿终正寝、与祖先同眠之后，我必立你的后裔接替你的王位，使他江山稳固。
