誰是智慧人，可以明白這事？耶和華的口可向誰述說，使他傳講呢？這地為何毀滅，枯焦如曠野，無人經過呢？

隨後又有七個荒年，甚至埃及地的人都忘了先前的豐收，這地必被饑荒所滅。因為那後來的饑荒非常嚴重，就不覺得這地先前有豐收。

田荒涼，地悲哀；因為五穀毀壞，新酒枯竭，新的油也缺乏。農夫啊，你們要慚愧；修整葡萄園的啊，你們要哀號；因為大麥、小麥與田間的莊稼全都毀了。葡萄樹枯乾，無花果樹衰殘，石榴樹、棕樹、蘋果樹，田野一切的樹木都枯乾；眾人的喜樂盡都消逝。

亞哈對俄巴底說：「我們要走遍這地，到一切水泉旁和一切溪邊，或者能找到青草，可以救活馬和騾子，免得喪失一些牲畜。」

夜間每逢時辰開始，要起來呼喊，在主面前傾心吐意如水。你的孩童在街頭上挨餓昏厥，你要為他們的性命向主舉手。耶和華啊，求你觀看，留意你向誰這樣行。婦人豈可吃自己所生、所撫育的嬰孩嗎？祭司和先知豈可在主的聖所中被殺嗎？

被刀劍刺殺的勝過因飢餓而死的；飢餓者由於缺乏田裏的出產就消瘦而亡。

耶和華的話臨到耶利米，論到旱災的事：「猶大悲哀，城門衰敗；眾人坐在地上哀慟，耶路撒冷的哀聲上達。他們的貴族打發僮僕去打水；他們來到水池，找不到水，就拿着空器皿，蒙羞慚愧，抱頭而回。因為無雨降在地上，土地就乾裂，農夫為此蒙羞抱頭。田野的母鹿因為無草也撇棄才生的小鹿。野驢站在光禿的高地喘氣，好像野狗；牠們的眼目因無草而失明。」
