拉結說：『你看我的使女辟拉在這裏；你進去找她，使她生子抱在我膝上，我的後裔也好由她建立起來。』拉結就把她的婢女辟拉給雅各為妾；雅各便進去找辟拉。辟拉就懷孕，給雅各生了一個兒子。拉結說：『上帝為我伸訴了，也聽了我的聲音，給了我一個兒子；所以她給孩子起名叫但。拉結的婢女辟拉又懷孕，給雅各生了第二個兒子。拉結說：『我跟我姐姐角力，簡直是天大的角力，而我竟得勝了』；於是她給孩子起名叫拿弗他利。

以色列在那地居住的時候，如便去和他父親的妾辟拉同寢；以色列聽見了。雅各有十二個兒子。
