雅各派猶大先去見約瑟，請他派人引路到歌珊去。他們來到歌珊，約瑟備好車前去迎接父親以色列。父子重逢，約瑟抱住父親哭了很久。

我父的家裡有許多住處，不然我就不會說去為你們安排地方了。我安排好了以後，必定回來接你們到我那裡。我在哪裡，讓你們也在哪裡。

「父啊！我在哪裡，願你賜給我的人也在哪裡，好讓他們看見你賜給我的榮耀，因為在創世以前你已經愛我了。

你們要說，『僕人們跟我們的祖先一樣，從小以畜牧為業。』這樣，你們就可以住在歌珊，因為埃及人厭惡牧羊的。」約瑟來到法老面前，對他說：「我父親和我的弟兄們已經帶著他們的羊群、牛群和所有的一切從迦南來了，現在就在歌珊。」約瑟從弟兄中帶了五個人去見法老。法老問他們：「你們做什麼工作？」他們回答說：「僕人們祖祖輩輩都是牧羊的。迦南的饑荒很嚴重，羊群沒有草吃，所以我們到這裡來寄居，求你准許僕人們住在歌珊。」法老對約瑟說：「你父親和弟兄們都來了，整個埃及就在你面前，儘管安排他們住在國中最好的地方。他們可以住在歌珊。如果你知道他們中間有能幹的人，可以派他們看管我的牲畜。」

只有以色列人所住的歌珊沒有冰雹。
