And we answered,‘ We have an aged father, and there is a young son born to him in his old age. His brother is dead, and he is the only one of his mother’s sons left, and his father loves him.’

以色列因為約瑟是他年老生的兒子，就愛約瑟過於愛他的眾兒子；他給約瑟作了一件有袖子的長褂。

雅各說：『我的兒子不可和你們一同下去；他哥哥死了，只剩下他；他若在你們所走的路上遭害，那便是你們使我白髮蒼蒼、悲悲慘慘地下陰間去了。』

他們說：『那人詳細地問到我們和我們的親屬，說：「你們的父親還活着麼？你們還有弟弟麼？」我們就按着這些問話的大意告訴他，哪能知道他要說：「必須把你們的弟弟帶下來」呢？』猶大對他父親以色列說：『打發那兒童和我一同去，我們就起身下去，好叫我們活着：你和我們的幼童，我們大家，都活着、不至於死。

他認得，就說：『我兒的褂子呀！惡獸把他喫了；約瑟一定被撕碎了，撕碎了。』雅各便撕裂衣裳，腰間加上麻布，為他兒子哀悼了許多日子。他的眾兒女都起來勸他停止服喪，他卻不肯停止服喪，說：『我要哀悼着下陰間到我兒子那裏。』約瑟的父親為約瑟哀哭了。

她臨死、快要斷氣的時候，就給她兒子起名叫便俄尼；他父親卻叫他便雅憫。

他們的父親雅各對他們說：『你們逕使我喪失兒子；約瑟沒有了，西緬也沒有了，你們又要將便雅憫帶走：這些事都落到我身上來了。』

他們說：『僕人們弟兄十二個；是迦南地一個人的兒子；頂小的現今和我們的父親在一起，還有一個不在了。』

便雅憫的兒子比拉、比結、亞實別、基拉、乃幔、以希、羅實、母平、戶平、亞勒；

猶大啊，你弟兄們必稱讚你；你的手必掐住你仇敵的脖子；你父親的兒子們必向你下拜。

彼此說：『你看，那做夢的來了。

將近城門的時候，有一個死了的人被人扛出來；是他母親的獨生子；母親又是寡婦；城裏有好大羣的人跟着她。

你僕人我父親對我們說：「你們知道我的妻子給我生了兩個孩子。一個離開我出去了；我說，他必是被撕碎了，直到如今、我也沒有見着他。現在你們又要把這個從我面前帶走。他若遭害，那便是你們使我白髮蒼蒼，淒淒慘慘地下陰間去了。」我父親的命和這兒童的命，簡直是連在一起。如今我回到你僕人我父親那裏，若沒有兒童和我們一同去，
