我说这话，并不是命令你们，而是藉着别人的热忱来考验你们爱心的真诚。

再把你们最小的弟弟带到我这里来。如此，你们的话就是真的了，你们也不至于死。”他们就照样做了。

你不可听那先知或是那做梦之人的话，因为这是耶和华—你们的上帝考验你们，要知道你们是否尽心尽性爱耶和华—你们的上帝。

我指着法老的性命起誓，若是你们最小的弟弟不到这里来，你们就不可以离开这里；这样你们就可以证实自己了。要派你们当中的一个人去，把你们的弟弟带来。至于你们，都要关在这里，好证实你们的话是不是真的。若不是，我指着法老的性命起誓，你们一定是奸细。”

他们为约瑟单独摆了一席，为那些人又摆了一席，也为和约瑟同吃饭的埃及人另摆了一席，因为埃及人不和希伯来人一同吃饭；那是埃及人所厌恶的。

“看哪！我差你们出去，如同羊进入狼群，所以你们要机警如蛇，纯真如鸽。

又在旷野将你列祖所不认识的吗哪赐给你吃，为要磨炼你，考验你，终久使你享福。

你要记得，这四十年耶和华—你的上帝在旷野一路引导你，是要磨炼你，考验你，为要知道你的心如何，是否愿意遵守他的诫命。
