I am not commanding you to do this. But I am testing how genuine your love is by comparing it with the eagerness of the other churches.

do not listen to them. The Lord your God is testing you to see if you truly love him with all your heart and soul.

This is how I will test your story. I swear by the life of Pharaoh that you will never leave Egypt unless your youngest brother comes here!One of you must go and get your brother. I’ll keep the rest of you here in prison. Then we’ll find out whether or not your story is true. By the life of Pharaoh, if it turns out that you don’t have a younger brother, then I’ll know you are spies.”

The waiters served Joseph at his own table, and his brothers were served at a separate table. The Egyptians who ate with Joseph sat at their own table, because Egyptians despise Hebrews and refuse to eat with them.

“ Look, I am sending you out as sheep among wolves. So be as shrewd as snakes and harmless as doves.

He fed you with manna in the wilderness, a food unknown to your ancestors. He did this to humble you and test you for your own good.

Remember how the Lord your God led you through the wilderness for these forty years, humbling you and testing you to prove your character, and to find out whether or not you would obey his commands.
