我说这话并非命令你们，而是借着别人的热心考验一下你们爱心的真伪。

但你们一定要带你们最小的弟弟回来，以证实你们说的是实话，这样你们就不会被处死。”他们同意了，

你们也不可听从他们。因为这是你们的上帝耶和华在试验你们，要看看你们是否全心全意地爱祂。

我以法老的性命起誓，你们最小的弟弟不来这里，你们都不能走，这是对你们的验证。你们派一个人回去把你们的弟弟带来，其他人都要被囚禁在这里，我要看看你们说的是真还是假。要是你们说的是假话，我以法老的性命起誓，你们一定是奸细。”

约瑟自己一桌，他的弟兄们一桌，那些和他们一起吃饭的埃及人一桌，因为埃及人厌恶和希伯来人同席。

“听着，我差你们出去，就好像使羊走进狼群一般。所以，你们要像蛇一样机灵，像鸽子一样驯良。

在旷野中把你们祖先从未见过的吗哪赐给你们吃，为要磨炼你们、考验你们，使你们最终得到益处。

要记住这四十年来你们的上帝耶和华怎样在旷野引领你们，祂磨炼你们、考验你们，好知道你们的心意如何、肯不肯遵守祂的诫命。
