But Judah said to him,“ The man warned us solemnly,‘ You will not see my face again unless your brother is with you.’

And Judah spake unto him, saying, The man did solemnly protest unto us, saying, Ye shall not see my face, except your brother be with you.

But if you will not send him, we won’t go down there because the man said to us,‘ You will not see my face unless your brother is with you.’”

Absalom said to Joab,“ Look, I sent a message to you saying,‘ Come here so that I can send you to the king with this message:“ Why have I come from Geshur? It would be better for me if I were still there.”’ Let me now see the face of the king. If I am at fault, let him put me to death!”

“ And now I know that none of you among whom I went around proclaiming the kingdom will see me again.

But the king said,“ Let him go over to his own house. He may not see my face.” So Absalom went over to his own house; he did not see the king’s face.

You will be tested in this way: As surely as Pharaoh lives, you will not depart from this place unless your youngest brother comes here.One of you must go and get your brother, while the rest of you remain in prison. In this way your words may be tested to see if you are telling the truth. If not, then, as surely as Pharaoh lives, you are spies!”He imprisoned them all for three days.On the third day Joseph said to them,“ Do as I say and you will live, for I fear God.If you are honest men, leave one of your brothers confined here in prison while the rest of you go and take grain back for your hungry families.But you must bring your youngest brother to me. Then your words will be verified and you will not die.” They did as he said.

Absalom lived in Jerusalem for two years without seeing the king’s face.

So David said,“ Good! I will make an agreement with you. I ask only one thing from you. You will not see my face unless you bring Saul’s daughter Michal when you come to visit me.”
