But he said,“ My son shall not go down with you, for his brother is dead, and he is left alone. If any calamity should befall him along the way in which you go, then you would bring down my gray hair with sorrow to the grave.”

曰我之幼子、必不與爾偕行、其兄已亡、惟彼獨存、如途間遭害、則爾使我皓首慘然下陰府矣、

曰我必不使幼子與爾偕往、其兄已亡、彼即㷀然、如途間遭害、則我皓然白首、淒涼歸墓、皆爾之過也。

曰我幼子必不可與爾同往、蓋其兄已死、惟彼獨留、若在爾所行之途遇害、則爾使我皓首悲慘歸示阿勒、

But Jacob said,“ My son will not go down there with you; his brother is dead and he is the only one left. If harm comes to him on the journey you are taking, you will bring my gray head down to the grave in sorrow.”

But Jacob said,“ My son will not go down there with you. His brother is dead. He’s the only one left here with me. Suppose he’s harmed on the journey you are taking. Then I would die as a sad old man.”

But he said,“ My son shall not go down with you, for his brother is dead, and he is the only one left. If harm should happen to him on the journey that you are to make, you would bring down my gray hairs with sorrow to Sheol.”

But Jacob replied,“ My son will not go down with you. His brother Joseph is dead, and he is all I have left. If anything should happen to him on your journey, you would send this grieving, white haired man to his grave.”

But Jacob answered,“ My son will not go down with you, for his brother is dead and he alone is left. If anything happens to him on your journey, you will bring my gray hairs down to Sheol in sorrow.”

But Jacob said,“ My son shall not go down with you; for his brother is dead, and he alone is left. If harm should happen to him on the journey you are taking, then you will bring my gray hair down to Sheol in sorrow.”

And he said, My son shall not go down with you; for his brother is dead, and he is left alone: if mischief befall him by the way in the which ye go, then shall ye bring down my gray hairs with sorrow to the grave.

But Jacob replied,“ My son will not go down there with you, for his brother is dead and he alone is left. If an accident happens to him on the journey you have to make, then you will bring down my gray hair in sorrow to the grave.”

He said,“ My son shall not go down with you; for his brother is dead, and he only is left. If harm happens to him along the way in which you go, then you will bring down my gray hairs with sorrow to Sheol.”

And all his sons and all his daughters arose to comfort him; but he refused to be comforted, and he said,“ For I shall go down into the grave to my son in mourning.” Thus his father wept for him.

But Jacob did not send Joseph’s brother Benjamin with his brothers, for he said,“ Lest some calamity befall him.”

And he recognized it and said,“ It is my son’s tunic. A wild beast has devoured him. Without doubt Joseph is torn to pieces.”

And they said,“ Your servants are twelve brothers, the sons of one man in the land of Canaan; and in fact, the youngest is with our father today, and one is no more.”

Then they journeyed from Bethel. And when there was but a little distance to go to Ephrath, Rachel labored in childbirth, and she had hard labor.Now it came to pass, when she was in hard labor, that the midwife said to her,“ Do not fear; you will have this son also.”And so it was, as her soul was departing( for she died), that she called his name Ben-Oni; but his father called him Benjamin.

Now also when I am old and grayheaded, O God, do not forsake me, Until I declare Your strength to this generation, Your power to everyone who is to come.

The days of our lives are seventy years; And if by reason of strength they are eighty years, Yet their boast is only labor and sorrow; For it is soon cut off, and we fly away.

Even to your old age, I am He, And even to gray hairs I will carry you! I have made, and I will bear; Even I will carry, and will deliver you.

Then your servant my father said to us,‘ You know that my wife bore me two sons;and the one went out from me, and I said,“ Surely he is torn to pieces”; and I have not seen him since.But if you take this one also from me, and calamity befalls him, you shall bring down my gray hair with sorrow to the grave.’“ Now therefore, when I come to your servant my father, and the lad is not with us, since his life is bound up in the lad’s life,it will happen, when he sees that the lad is not with us, that he will die. So your servants will bring down the gray hair of your servant our father with sorrow to the grave.For your servant became surety for the lad to my father, saying,‘ If I do not bring him back to you, then I shall bear the blame before my father forever.’Now therefore, please let your servant remain instead of the lad as a slave to my Lord, and let the lad go up with his brothers.For how shall I go up to my father if the lad is not with me, lest perhaps I see the evil that would come upon my father?”

For God gives wisdom and knowledge and joy to a man who is good in His sight; but to the sinner He gives the work of gathering and collecting, that he may give to him who is good before God. This also is vanity and grasping for the wind.

I have seen all the works that are done under the sun; and indeed, all is vanity and grasping for the wind.

Then God remembered Rachel, and God listened to her and opened her womb.And she conceived and bore a son, and said,“ God has taken away my reproach.”So she called his name Joseph, and said,“ The Lord shall add to me another son.”

Therefore do according to your wisdom, and do not let his gray hair go down to the grave in peace.

I said,“ In the prime of my life I shall go to the gates of Sheol; I am deprived of the remainder of my years.”

And we said to my Lord,‘ We have a father, an old man, and a child of his old age, who is young; his brother is dead, and he alone is left of his mother’s children, and his father loves him.’
