Jacob exclaimed,“ You are robbing me of my children! Joseph is gone! Simeon is gone! And now you want to take Benjamin, too. Everything is going against me!”

Their father Jacob said to them,“ You have deprived me of my children. Joseph is no more and Simeon is no more, and now you want to take Benjamin. Everything is against me!”

Their father Jacob said to them,“ You have taken my children away from me. Joseph is gone. Simeon is gone. Now you want to take Benjamin. Everything is going against me!”

And Jacob their father said to them,“ You have bereaved me of my children: Joseph is no more, and Simeon is no more, and now you would take Benjamin. All this has come against me.”

Their father Jacob said to them,“ It’s me that you make childless. Joseph is gone, and Simeon is gone. Now you want to take Benjamin. Everything happens to me!”

And their father Jacob said to them,“ You have deprived me of my sons: Joseph is gone, and Simeon is gone, and now you would take Benjamin; all these things are against me.”

And Jacob their father said to them,“ You have bereaved me: Joseph is no more, Simeon is no more, and you want to take Benjamin. All these things are against me.”

Their father Jacob said to them,“ You are making me childless! Joseph is gone. Simeon is gone. And now you want to take Benjamin! Everything is against me.”

Jacob, their father, said to them,“ You have bereaved me of my children! Joseph is no more, Simeon is no more, and you want to take Benjamin away. All these things are against me.”

May God Almighty give you mercy as you go before the man, so that he will release Simeon and let Benjamin return. But if I must lose my children, so be it.”

I said,“ In the prime of my life, must I now enter the place of the dead? Am I to be robbed of the rest of my years?”

Jesus immediately reached out and grabbed him.“ You have so little faith,” Jesus said.“ Why did you doubt me?”

The Lord did this to purge Israel’s wickedness, to take away all her sin. As a result, all the pagan altars will be crushed to dust. No Asherah pole or pagan shrine will be left standing.

And Joseph provided food for his father and his brothers in amounts appropriate to the number of their dependents, including the smallest children.

And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.

Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.

Then Jacob exclaimed,“ It must be true! My son Joseph is alive! I must go and see him before I die.”

Finishing is better than starting. Patience is better than pride.

The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure.

O God, remember that my life is but a breath, and I will never again feel happiness.

“ Come on, let’s kill him and throw him into one of these cisterns. We can tell our father,‘ A wild animal has eaten him.’ Then we’ll see what becomes of his dreams!”But when Reuben heard of their scheme, he came to Joseph’s rescue.“ Let’s not kill him,” he said.“ Why should we shed any blood? Let’s just throw him into this empty cistern here in the wilderness. Then he’ll die without our laying a hand on him.” Reuben was secretly planning to rescue Joseph and return him to his father.So when Joseph arrived, his brothers ripped off the beautiful robe he was wearing.Then they grabbed him and threw him into the cistern. Now the cistern was empty; there was no water in it.Then, just as they were sitting down to eat, they looked up and saw a caravan of camels in the distance coming toward them. It was a group of Ishmaelite traders taking a load of gum, balm, and aromatic resin from Gilead down to Egypt.Judah said to his brothers,“ What will we gain by killing our brother? We’d have to cover up the crime.Instead of hurting him, let’s sell him to those Ishmaelite traders. After all, he is our brother— our own flesh and blood!” And his brothers agreed.So when the Ishmaelites, who were Midianite traders, came by, Joseph’s brothers pulled him out of the cistern and sold him to them for twenty pieces of silver. And the traders took him to Egypt.Some time later, Reuben returned to get Joseph out of the cistern. When he discovered that Joseph was missing, he tore his clothes in grief.Then he went back to his brothers and lamented,“ The boy is gone! What will I do now?”Then the brothers killed a young goat and dipped Joseph’s robe in its blood.They sent the beautiful robe to their father with this message:“ Look at what we found. Doesn’t this robe belong to your son?”Their father recognized it immediately.“ Yes,” he said,“ it is my son’s robe. A wild animal must have eaten him. Joseph has clearly been torn to pieces!”Then Jacob tore his clothes and dressed himself in burlap. He mourned deeply for his son for a long time.His family all tried to comfort him, but he refused to be comforted.“ I will go to my grave mourning for my son,” he would say, and then he would weep.

For I hold you by your right hand— I, the Lord your God. And I say to you,‘ Don’t be afraid. I am here to help you.Though you are a lowly worm, O Jacob, don’t be afraid, people of Israel, for I will help you. I am the Lord, your Redeemer. I am the Holy One of Israel.’

For our present troubles are small and won’t last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever!

What shall we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us?

The righteous person faces many troubles, but the Lord comes to the rescue each time.

Dear brothers and sisters, be patient as you wait for the Lord’s return. Consider the farmers who patiently wait for the rains in the fall and in the spring. They eagerly look for the valuable harvest to ripen.You, too, must be patient. Take courage, for the coming of the Lord is near.Don’t grumble about each other, brothers and sisters, or you will be judged. For look— the Judge is standing at the door!For examples of patience in suffering, dear brothers and sisters, look at the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord.We give great honor to those who endure under suffering. For instance, you know about Job, a man of great endurance. You can see how the Lord was kind to him at the end, for the Lord is full of tenderness and mercy.

But David kept thinking to himself,“ Someday Saul is going to get me. The best thing I can do is escape to the Philistines. Then Saul will stop hunting for me in Israelite territory, and I will finally be safe.”
