Their father Jacob said to them,“ You have deprived me of my children. Joseph is no more and Simeon is no more, and now you want to take Benjamin. Everything is against me!”

Their father Jacob said to them,“ You have taken my children away from me. Joseph is gone. Simeon is gone. Now you want to take Benjamin. Everything is going against me!”

And Jacob their father said to them,“ You have bereaved me of my children: Joseph is no more, and Simeon is no more, and now you would take Benjamin. All this has come against me.”

Jacob exclaimed,“ You are robbing me of my children! Joseph is gone! Simeon is gone! And now you want to take Benjamin, too. Everything is going against me!”

Their father Jacob said to them,“ It’s me that you make childless. Joseph is gone, and Simeon is gone. Now you want to take Benjamin. Everything happens to me!”

And their father Jacob said to them,“ You have deprived me of my sons: Joseph is gone, and Simeon is gone, and now you would take Benjamin; all these things are against me.”

And may God Almighty grant you mercy before the man so that he will let your other brother and Benjamin come back with you. As for me, if I am bereaved, I am bereaved.” (niv)

I said,“ In the prime of my life must I go through the gates of death and be robbed of the rest of my years?” (niv)

Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him.“ You of little faith,” he said,“ why did you doubt?” (niv)

By this, then, will Jacob’s guilt be atoned for, and this will be the full fruit of the removal of his sin: When he makes all the altar stones to be like limestone crushed to pieces, no Asherah poles or incense altars will be left standing. (niv)

Joseph also provided his father and his brothers and all his father’s household with food, according to the number of their children. (niv)

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. (niv)

So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. (niv)

And Israel said,“ I’m convinced! My son Joseph is still alive. I will go and see him before I die.” (niv)

The end of a matter is better than its beginning, and patience is better than pride. (niv)

Throw him into this cistern here in the wilderness, but don’t lay a hand on him.” Reuben said this to rescue him from them and take him back to his father.So when Joseph came to his brothers, they stripped him of his robe— the ornate robe he was wearing—and they took him and threw him into the cistern. The cistern was empty; there was no water in it.As they sat down to eat their meal, they looked up and saw a caravan of Ishmaelites coming from Gilead. Their camels were loaded with spices, balm and myrrh, and they were on their way to take them down to Egypt.Judah said to his brothers,“ What will we gain if we kill our brother and cover up his blood?Come, let’s sell him to the Ishmaelites and not lay our hands on him; after all, he is our brother, our own flesh and blood.” His brothers agreed.So when the Midianite merchants came by, his brothers pulled Joseph up out of the cistern and sold him for twenty shekels of silver to the Ishmaelites, who took him to Egypt.When Reuben returned to the cistern and saw that Joseph was not there, he tore his clothes.He went back to his brothers and said,“ The boy isn’t there! Where can I turn now?”Then they got Joseph’s robe, slaughtered a goat and dipped the robe in the blood.They took the ornate robe back to their father and said,“ We found this. Examine it to see whether it is your son’s robe.”He recognized it and said,“ It is my son’s robe! Some ferocious animal has devoured him. Joseph has surely been torn to pieces.”Then Jacob tore his clothes, put on sackcloth and mourned for his son many days.All his sons and daughters came to comfort him, but he refused to be comforted.“ No,” he said,“ I will continue to mourn until I join my son in the grave.” So his father wept for him. For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.Do not be afraid, you worm Jacob, little Israel, do not fear, for I myself will help you,” declares the Lord, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel. (niv)

For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. (niv)

What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? (niv)

The righteous person may have many troubles, but the Lord delivers him from them all; (niv)

Be patient, then, brothers and sisters, until the Lord’s coming. See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop, patiently waiting for the autumn and spring rains.You too, be patient and stand firm, because the Lord’s coming is near.Don’t grumble against one another, brothers and sisters, or you will be judged. The Judge is standing at the door!Brothers and sisters, as an example of patience in the face of suffering, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord.As you know, we count as blessed those who have persevered. You have heard of Job’s perseverance and have seen what the Lord finally brought about. The Lord is full of compassion and mercy. (niv)

But David thought to himself,“ One of these days I will be destroyed by the hand of Saul. The best thing I can do is to escape to the land of the Philistines. Then Saul will give up searching for me anywhere in Israel, and I will slip out of his hand.” (niv)
