約瑟愛弟弟的心腸熱起來，就急忙尋找可哭的地方，便進自己的臥房去哭一陣。

西緬和利未是弟兄；他們的刀劍是強暴之器械。我的心哪，不要進入他們的議會；我的肝腸啊，不要參加他們的集團；因為他們氣忿忿地殺人，任意砍斷牛腿大筋；他們的忿怒可咒詛，因為很猛烈；他們的暴怒可咒詛，因為很嚴厲：我必使他們分居於雅各家；使他們散住在以色列。

到了第三天，眾人還在疼痛的時候，雅各的兩個兒子，底拿的哥哥，西緬和利未，各拿刀劍，泰然自若地來到那城，把所有的男丁都殺了。

於他們一切的患難中。並不是大使、不是天使、乃是他自己的臨在、拯救了他們；是以他的愛和憐惜才贖回了他們；是儘往古之日就懷抱了他們，懷搋了他們。

有些人存疑心，你們要憐恤；要拯救、從火中攫出；有些人、你們要存着畏懼的心去憐恤；連那由肉體沾污的裏衣、你們也要恨惡。

管家的說：『你們安心好啦，不要害怕；是你們的上帝、和你們父親的上帝賜給你們寶藏在你們的布袋裏；你們的銀子早已到我這裏來了。』他就把西緬帶出來給他們。

臨近的時候，耶穌看見那城，就為它哭泣

於是約瑟伏在他弟弟便雅憫的脖子上哭；便雅憫也伏在約瑟的脖子上哭。他又和眾弟兄親嘴，伏在他們身上哭；隨後他弟兄們就和他說話。

因為我們的大祭司並不是一位不能同情於我們的種種軟弱的，乃是一位在各方面同樣受過試誘、卻沒有罪的。

若是一個肢體受苦，眾肢體就一同受苦；若是一個肢體得光榮，眾肢體就一同喜樂。

要和喜樂的人同喜樂，和哭泣的人同哭泣；

願全能的上帝使你們在那人面前蒙憐憫，叫他把你們那弟兄和便雅憫送還給你們：那我就是喪了兒子，就喪了罷。』
