約瑟愛弟之情發動，就急忙尋找可哭之地，進入自己的屋裏，哭了一場。

西緬和利未是弟兄；他們的刀劍是殘忍的器具。我的靈啊，不要與他們同謀；我的心哪，不要與他們聯絡；因為他們趁怒殺害人命，任意砍斷牛腿大筋。他們的怒氣暴烈可咒；他們的忿恨殘忍可詛。我要使他們分居在雅各家裏，散住在以色列地中。

到第三天，眾人正在疼痛的時候，雅各的兩個兒子，就是底拿的哥哥西緬和利未，各拿刀劍，趁着眾人想不到的時候來到城中，把一切男丁都殺了，

他們在一切苦難中，他也同受苦難；並且他面前的使者拯救他們；他以慈愛和憐憫救贖他們；在古時的日子常保抱他們，懷搋他們。

有些人存疑心，你們要憐憫他們；有些人你們要從火中搶出來，搭救他們；有些人你們要存懼怕的心憐憫他們，連那被情慾沾染的衣服也當厭惡。

家宰說：「你們可以放心，不要害怕，是你們的神和你們父親的神賜給你們財寶在你們的口袋裏；你們的銀子，我早已收了。」他就把西緬帶出來，交給他們。

耶穌快到耶路撒冷，看見城，就為它哀哭，

於是約瑟伏在他兄弟便雅憫的頸項上哭，便雅憫也在他的頸項上哭。他又與眾弟兄親嘴，抱着他們哭，隨後他弟兄們就和他說話。

因我們的大祭司並非不能體恤我們的軟弱。他也曾凡事受過試探，與我們一樣，只是他沒有犯罪。

若一個肢體受苦，所有的肢體就一同受苦；若一個肢體得榮耀，所有的肢體就一同快樂。

與喜樂的人要同樂；與哀哭的人要同哭。

但願全能的神使你們在那人面前蒙憐憫，釋放你們的那弟兄和便雅憫回來。我若喪了兒子，就喪了吧！」
