Reuben replied,“ Didn’t I tell you not to sin against the boy? But you wouldn’t listen! Now we’re being paid back for killing him.”

流便说：“我岂不是对你们说过，不可伤害那孩子吗？只是你们不肯听，所以流他血的罪向我们追讨。”

吕便回答他们说：“我不是对你们说过，不可伤害那孩子吗？只是你们不肯听，看哪，他的血在追讨了。”

吕便说：“我不是劝你们不要犯罪害那孩子吗？你们不听，现在我们必须偿还血债了。”

流本回答他们，说：“我不是对你们说过：‘不要伤害那孩子’吗？可是你们不肯听，现在流他血的罪要向我们追讨。”

鲁本就回应他们，说：“我不是对你们说过：‘不要对那孩子犯罪’吗？可是你们不肯听；看哪，他的血债现在来追讨了！”

呂便說：「我豈不是對你們說過，不可傷害那孩子嗎？只是你們不肯聽，所以流他血的罪向我們追討。」

呂便回答他們說：「我不是對你們說過，不可傷害那孩子嗎？只是你們不肯聽，看哪，他的血在追討了。」

呂便回答他們說：「我不是對你們說過，不可傷害那孩子嗎？只是你們不肯聽，看哪，他的血在追討了。」

呂便說：「我不是勸你們不要犯罪害那孩子嗎？你們不聽，現在我們必須償還血債了。」

流本回答他們，說：“我不是對你們說過：‘不要傷害那孩子’嗎？可是你們不肯聽，現在流他血的罪要向我們追討。”

如便回答他們說：『我不是對你們說過麼？我說：「不要得罪那孩子」，你們卻不肯聽；看哪，流他血的罪正向我們追討呢！』

魯本就回應他們，說：「我不是對你們說過：『不要對那孩子犯罪』嗎？可是你們不肯聽；看哪，他的血債現在來追討了！」

流便曰、我豈不曰、勿干咎於孺子、惟爾弗聽、故討其血於我也、

流便曰、我豈不曰、莫害孺子、惟爾不聽、故流厥血之罪、今歸於我。

流便謂之曰、我豈不曰、毋害童子而獲罪、今流其血之罪、向我討之、

Reuben replied,“ Didn’t I tell you not to sin against the boy? But you wouldn’t listen! Now we must give an accounting for his blood.”

And Reuben answered them,“ Did I not tell you not to sin against the boy? But you did not listen. So now there comes a reckoning for his blood.”

“ Didn’t I tell you not to sin against the boy?” Reuben asked.“ But you wouldn’t listen. And now we have to answer for his blood!”

But Reuben replied,“ Didn’t I tell you not to harm the boy? But you wouldn’t listen. Now we must account for his blood!”

Reuben answered them, saying,“ Did I not tell you,‘ Do not sin against the boy’; and you would not listen? Now justice for his blood is required.”

And Reuben answered them, saying,“ Did I not speak to you, saying,‘ Do not sin against the boy’; and you would not listen? Therefore behold, his blood is now required of us.”

And Reuben answered them, saying, Spake I not unto you, saying, Do not sin against the child; and ye would not hear? therefore also, behold, his blood is required.

But Reuben replied:“ Didn’t I tell you not to harm the boy? But you wouldn’t listen. Now we must account for his blood!”

And Reuben answered them, saying, Spake I not unto you, saying, Do not sin against the child; and ye would not hear? therefore, behold, also his blood is required.

Reuben said to them,“ Didn’t I say to you,‘ Don’t sin against the boy,’ but you wouldn’t listen? So now we must pay for shedding his blood!”

Reuben answered them, saying,“ Didn’t I tell you, saying,‘ Don’t sin against the child,’ and you wouldn’t listen? Therefore also, behold, his blood is required.”

King Joash didn’t remember how kind Zechariah’s father Jehoiada had been to him. So he killed Jehoiada’s son. As Zechariah was dying he said,“ May the Lord see this. May he hold you responsible.”

The God who pays back murderers remembers. He doesn’t forget the cries of those who are hurting.

The Lord will pay him back for the blood he spilled. Joab attacked two men. He killed them with his sword. And my father David didn’t even know anything about it. Joab killed Abner, the son of Ner. Abner was the commander of Israel’s army. Joab also killed Amasa, the son of Jether. Amasa was the commander of Judah’s army. Abner and Amasa were better men than Joab is. They were more honest than he is.

Reuben heard them talking. He tried to save Joseph from them.“ Let’s not take his life,” he said.“ Don’t spill any of his blood. Throw him into this empty well here in the desert. But don’t harm him yourselves.” Reuben said that to save Joseph from them. He was hoping he could take him back to his father.

So the people of today will be punished. They will pay for all the prophets’ blood spilled since the world began.I mean from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah. He was killed between the altar and the temple. Yes, I tell you, the people of today will be punished for all these things.

I will certainly hold someone accountable if you are murdered. I will even hold animals accountable if they kill you. I will also hold anyone accountable who murders another person.“ Anyone who murders a human being will be killed by a human being. That is because I have made human beings so that they are like me.

They show that what the law requires is written on their hearts. The way their minds judge them proves this fact. Sometimes their thoughts find them guilty. At other times their thoughts find them not guilty.

Suppose I say to a sinful person,‘ You can be sure you will die.’ And you do not warn them. You do not try to get them to change their evil ways in order to save their life. Then that sinful person will die because they have sinned. And I will hold you responsible for their death.

Later, Reuben came back to the empty well. He saw that Joseph wasn’t there. He was so upset that he tore his clothes.He went back to his brothers and said,“ The boy isn’t there! Now what should I do?”

“ Everyone who is supposed to be captured will be captured. Everyone who is supposed to be killed by a sword will be killed by a sword.”( Jeremiah 15:2) So God’s people must be patient and faithful.

We are being punished fairly. We are getting just what our actions call for. But this man hasn’t done anything wrong.”

The Lord said,“ What have you done? Listen! Your brother’s blood is crying out to me from the ground.

They were burned by the blazing heat. So they spoke evil things against the name of God, who controlled these plagues. But they refused to turn away from their sins. They did not give glory to God.

The people of the island saw the snake hanging from his hand. They said to one another,“ This man must be a murderer. He escaped from the sea. But the female god Justice won’t let him live.”
