But Reuben replied,“ Didn’t I tell you not to harm the boy? But you wouldn’t listen. Now we must account for his blood!”

鲁本就回应他们，说：“我不是对你们说过：‘不要对那孩子犯罪’吗？可是你们不肯听；看哪，他的血债现在来追讨了！”

呂便說：「我豈不是對你們說過，不可傷害那孩子嗎？只是你們不肯聽，所以流他血的罪向我們追討。」

如便回答他們說：『我不是對你們說過麼？我說：「不要得罪那孩子」，你們卻不肯聽；看哪，流他血的罪正向我們追討呢！』

魯本就回應他們，說：「我不是對你們說過：『不要對那孩子犯罪』嗎？可是你們不肯聽；看哪，他的血債現在來追討了！」

流便曰、我豈不曰、勿干咎於孺子、惟爾弗聽、故討其血於我也、

流便曰、我豈不曰、莫害孺子、惟爾不聽、故流厥血之罪、今歸於我。

流便謂之曰、我豈不曰、毋害童子而獲罪、今流其血之罪、向我討之、

Reuben replied,“ Didn’t I tell you not to sin against the boy? But you wouldn’t listen! Now we must give an accounting for his blood.”

Reuben replied,“ Didn’t I tell you not to sin against the boy? But you wouldn’t listen! Now we’re being paid back for killing him.”

And Reuben answered them,“ Did I not tell you not to sin against the boy? But you did not listen. So now there comes a reckoning for his blood.”

“ Didn’t I tell you not to sin against the boy?” Reuben asked.“ But you wouldn’t listen. And now we have to answer for his blood!”

Reuben answered them, saying,“ Did I not tell you,‘ Do not sin against the boy’; and you would not listen? Now justice for his blood is required.”

And Reuben answered them, saying,“ Did I not speak to you, saying,‘ Do not sin against the boy’; and you would not listen? Therefore behold, his blood is now required of us.”

And Reuben answered them, saying, Spake I not unto you, saying, Do not sin against the child; and ye would not hear? therefore also, behold, his blood is required.

But Reuben replied:“ Didn’t I tell you not to harm the boy? But you wouldn’t listen. Now we must account for his blood!”

King Joash didn’t remember the kindness that Zechariah’s father Jehoiada had extended to him, but killed his son. While he was dying, he said,“ May the LORD see and demand an account.”

For the one who seeks an accounting for bloodshed remembers them; he does not forget the cry of the oppressed.

The LORD will bring back his own blood on his head because he struck down two men more righteous and better than he, without my father David’s knowledge. With his sword, Joab murdered Abner son of Ner, commander of Israel’s army, and Amasa son of Jether, commander of Judah’s army.

When Reuben heard this, he tried to save him from them. He said,“ Let’s not take his life.”Reuben also said to them,“ Don’t shed blood. Throw him into this pit in the wilderness, but don’t lay a hand on him”— intending to rescue him from them and return him to his father.

so that this generation may be held responsible for the blood of all the prophets shed since the foundation of the world—from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah, who perished between the altar and the sanctuary.“ Yes, I tell you, this generation will be held responsible.

And I will require a penalty for your lifeblood; I will require it from any animal and from any human; if someone murders a fellow human, I will require that person’s life.Whoever sheds human blood, by humans his blood will be shed, for God made humans in his image.

They show that the work of the law is written on their hearts. Their consciences confirm this. Their competing thoughts either accuse or even excuse them

If I say to the wicked person,‘ You will surely die,’ but you do not warn him— you don’t speak out to warn him about his wicked way in order to save his life— that wicked person will die for his iniquity. Yet I will hold you responsible for his blood.

When Reuben returned to the pit and saw that Joseph was not there, he tore his clothes.He went back to his brothers and said,“ The boy is gone! What am I going to do?”

If anyone is to be taken captive, into captivity he goes. If anyone is to be killed with a sword, with a sword he will be killed. This calls for endurance and faithfulness from the saints.

We are punished justly, because we’re getting back what we deserve for the things we did, but this man has done nothing wrong.”

Then he said,“ What have you done? Your brother’s blood cries out to me from the ground!

and people were scorched by the intense heat. So they blasphemed the name of God, who has the power over these plagues, and they did not repent and give him glory.

When the local people saw the snake hanging from his hand, they said to one another,“ This man, no doubt, is a murderer. Even though he has escaped the sea, Justice has not allowed him to live.”
