And they said one to another, We[ are] verily guilty concerning our brother, in that we saw the anguish of his soul, when he besought us, and we would not hear; therefore is this distress come upon us.

相語曰、昔我儕緣弟獲戾、見其苦衷、而不聽其祈求、故遭此難、

相語曰、昔吾儕因弟而獲罪、我見其乞憐、不諒其苦衷、置若罔聞、故遭此難。

眾兄弟相語曰、昔我儕因弟而獲罪、我見其苦心、雖乞憐而我不聽、故遭此難、

They said to one another,“ Surely we are being punished because of our brother. We saw how distressed he was when he pleaded with us for his life, but we would not listen; that’s why this distress has come on us.”

They said to one another,“ God is surely punishing us because of our brother. We saw how upset he was when he begged us to let him live. But we wouldn’t listen. That’s why all this trouble has come to us.”

Then they said to one another,“ In truth we are guilty concerning our brother, in that we saw the distress of his soul, when he begged us and we did not listen. That is why this distress has come upon us.”

Speaking among themselves, they said,“ Clearly we are being punished because of what we did to Joseph long ago. We saw his anguish when he pleaded for his life, but we wouldn’t listen. That’s why we’re in this trouble.”

Then they said to each other,“ Obviously, we are being punished for what we did to our brother. We saw his deep distress when he pleaded with us, but we would not listen. That is why this trouble has come to us.”

Then they said to one another,“ Truly we are guilty concerning our brother, because we saw the distress of his soul when he pleaded with us, yet we would not listen; for that reason this distress has happened to us.”

Then they said to one another,“ We are truly guilty concerning our brother, for we saw the anguish of his soul when he pleaded with us, and we would not hear; therefore this distress has come upon us.”

And they said one to another, We are verily guilty concerning our brother, in that we saw the distress of his soul, when he besought us, and we would not hear; therefore is this distress come upon us.

Then they said to each other,“ Obviously, we are being punished for what we did to our brother. We saw his deep distress when he pleaded with us, but we would not listen. That is why this trouble has come to us.”

They said to one other,“ Surely we’re being punished because of our brother, because we saw how distressed he was when he cried to us for mercy, but we refused to listen. That is why this distress has come on us!”

They said to one another,“ We are certainly guilty concerning our brother, in that we saw the distress of his soul, when he begged us, and we wouldn’t listen. Therefore this distress has come upon us.”

I will go[ and] return to my place, till they acknowledge their offence, and seek my face: in their affliction they will seek me early.

And it came to pass, when Joseph was come unto his brethren, that they stript Joseph out of his coat,[ his] coat of[ many] colours that[ was] on him;And they took him, and cast him into a pit: and the pit[ was] empty,[ there was] no water in it.And they sat down to eat bread: and they lifted up their eyes and looked, and, behold, a company of Ishmeelites came from Gilead with their camels bearing spicery and balm and myrrh, going to carry[ it] down to Egypt.And Judah said unto his brethren, What profit[ is it] if we slay our brother, and conceal his blood?Come, and let us sell him to the Ishmeelites, and let not our hand be upon him; for he[ is] our brother[ and] our flesh. And his brethren were content.Then there passed by Midianites merchantmen; and they drew and lifted up Joseph out of the pit, and sold Joseph to the Ishmeelites for twenty[ pieces] of silver: and they brought Joseph into Egypt.

And if[ they be] bound in fetters,[ and] be holden in cords of affliction;Then he sheweth them their work, and their transgressions that they have exceeded.

And David said unto Nathan, I have sinned against the LORD. And Nathan said unto David, The LORD also hath put away thy sin; thou shalt not die.

A man that doeth violence to the blood of[ any] person shall flee to the pit; let no man stay him.

Therefore thus saith the LORD; Ye have not hearkened unto me, in proclaiming liberty, every one to his brother, and every man to his neighbour: behold, I proclaim a liberty for you, saith the LORD, to the sword, to the pestilence, and to the famine; and I will make you to be removed into all the kingdoms of the earth.

For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.

Whoso stoppeth his ears at the cry of the poor, he also shall cry himself, but shall not be heard.

And many that believed came, and confessed, and shewed their deeds.

And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched:Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.And if thy foot offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter halt into life, than having two feet to be cast into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched:

Thine own wickedness shall correct thee, and thy backslidings shall reprove thee: know therefore and see that[ it is] an evil[ thing] and bitter, that thou hast forsaken the LORD thy God, and that my fear[ is] not in thee, saith the Lord GOD of hosts.

For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment.

Surely it is meet to be said unto God, I have borne[ chastisement], I will not offend[ any more]:[ That which] I see not teach thou me: if I have done iniquity, I will do no more.

Thy way and thy doings have procured these[ things] unto thee; this[ is] thy wickedness, because it is bitter, because it reacheth unto thine heart.

For he shall have judgment without mercy, that hath shewed no mercy; and mercy rejoiceth against judgment.

But if ye will not do so, behold, ye have sinned against the LORD: and be sure your sin will find you out.

Then spake the chief butler unto Pharaoh, saying, I do remember my faults this day:

Then Judas, which had betrayed him, when he saw that he was condemned, repented himself, and brought again the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders,Saying, I have sinned in that I have betrayed the innocent blood. And they said, What[ is that] to us? see thou[ to that].

And she said unto Elijah, What have I to do with thee, O thou man of God? art thou come unto me to call my sin to remembrance, and to slay my son?

And Adonibezek said, Threescore and ten kings, having their thumbs and their great toes cut off, gathered[ their meat] under my table: as I have done, so God hath requited me. And they brought him to Jerusalem, and there he died.

If thou forbear to deliver[ them that are] drawn unto death, and[ those that are] ready to be slain;If thou sayest, Behold, we knew it not; doth not he that pondereth the heart consider[ it]? and he that keepeth thy soul, doth[ not] he know[ it]? and shall[ not] he render to[ every] man according to his works?

Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.

He looketh upon men, and[ if any] say, I have sinned, and perverted[ that which was] right, and it profited me not;He will deliver his soul from going into the pit, and his life shall see the light.

When your fear cometh as desolation, and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish cometh upon you.Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me:

Hast thou not procured this unto thyself, in that thou hast forsaken the LORD thy God, when he led thee by the way?
