後來埃及和迦南全地遭遇饑荒、大災難，我們的祖先找不到糧食。

他命令饑荒臨到那地，斷絕了一切糧食的供應。

我要在那裡供養你，因為還有五年的饑荒，免得你和你的家人，以及你一切所有的，都陷入窮困裡。’

接著又必有七年饑荒；甚至埃及地所有的豐收都被人忘記了，饑荒必把這地毀滅。

以色列的眾子也在前來買糧的人群中，因為迦南地也有饑荒。當時治理埃及地的官長是約瑟，賣糧給那地所有的人民的就是他。所以，約瑟的哥哥們來俯伏在地向他下拜。

那接著上來的七頭又消瘦又醜陋的母牛是七年，那七個不結實、被東風吹焦了的麥穗也是七年，都是七年饑荒。

接著，又有另外七頭母牛從河裡上來，又醜陋又瘦弱，站在岸上其他母牛旁邊。這些醜陋瘦弱的母牛，竟把那七隻健美肥壯的母牛吃掉，法老就醒了。

他又說：“我聽說埃及有糧食，你們下到那裡去，給我們買些糧食，使我們可以活下去，不至餓死。”

那地的饑荒十分嚴重。

那時，遍地都沒有糧食，因為饑荒非常嚴重。埃及地和迦南地的人，因為饑荒的緣故都餓昏了。

接著，又長出七個麥穗，又乾瘦又被東風吹焦了。這些乾瘦的麥穗，竟把那七個又肥壯又飽滿的麥穗吞下去，法老就醒了，原來是一個夢。
