后来埃及和迦南全地遭遇饥荒、大灾难，我们的祖先找不到粮食。

他命令饥荒临到那地，断绝了一切粮食的供应。

我要在那里供养你，因为还有五年的饥荒，免得你和你的家人，以及你一切所有的，都陷入穷困里。’

接着又必有七年饥荒；甚至埃及地所有的丰收都被人忘记了，饥荒必把这地毁灭。

以色列的众子也在前来买粮的人群中，因为迦南地也有饥荒。当时治理埃及地的官长是约瑟，卖粮给那地所有的人民的就是他。所以，约瑟的哥哥们来俯伏在地向他下拜。

那接着上来的七头又消瘦又丑陋的母牛是七年，那七个不结实、被东风吹焦了的麦穗也是七年，都是七年饥荒。

接着，又有另外七头母牛从河里上来，又丑陋又瘦弱，站在岸上其他母牛旁边。这些丑陋瘦弱的母牛，竟把那七只健美肥壮的母牛吃掉，法老就醒了。

他又说：“我听说埃及有粮食，你们下到那里去，给我们买些粮食，使我们可以活下去，不至饿死。”

那地的饥荒十分严重。

那时，遍地都没有粮食，因为饥荒非常严重。埃及地和迦南地的人，因为饥荒的缘故都饿昏了。

接着，又长出七个麦穗，又干瘦又被东风吹焦了。这些干瘦的麦穗，竟把那七个又肥壮又饱满的麦穗吞下去，法老就醒了，原来是一个梦。
