Joseph named his firstborn Manasseh and said,“ It is because God has made me forget all my trouble and all my father’s household.”

Joseph named his first son Manasseh. That’s because he said,“ God has made me forget all my trouble and my father’s whole family.”

Joseph called the name of the firstborn Manasseh.“ For,” he said,“ God has made me forget all my hardship and all my father’s house.”

Joseph named his older son Manasseh, for he said,“ God has made me forget all my troubles and everyone in my father’s family.”

For his anger[ endureth but] a moment; in his favour[ is] life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy[ cometh] in the morning.

His glory[ is like] the firstling of his bullock, and his horns[ are like] the horns of unicorns: with them he shall push the people together to the ends of the earth: and they[ are] the ten thousands of Ephraim, and they[ are] the thousands of Manasseh.

Let him drink, and forget his poverty, and remember his misery no more.

That he who blesseth himself in the earth shall bless himself in the God of truth; and he that sweareth in the earth shall swear by the God of truth; because the former troubles are forgotten, and because they are hid from mine eyes.

For I will not contend for ever, neither will I be always wroth: for the spirit should fail before me, and the souls[ which] I have made.

And now thy two sons, Ephraim and Manasseh, which were born unto thee in the land of Egypt before I came unto thee into Egypt,[ are] mine; as Reuben and Simeon, they shall be mine.

And there shall arise after them seven years of famine; and all the plenty shall be forgotten in the land of Egypt; and the famine shall consume the land;

And Joseph took them both, Ephraim in his right hand toward Israel’s left hand, and Manasseh in his left hand toward Israel’s right hand, and brought[ them] near unto him.And Israel stretched out his right hand, and laid[ it] upon Ephraim’s head, who[ was] the younger, and his left hand upon Manasseh’s head, guiding his hands wittingly; for Manasseh[ was] the firstborn.

Hearken, O daughter, and consider, and incline thine ear; forget also thine own people, and thy father’s house;

And Joseph said unto his father, Not so, my father: for this[ is] the firstborn; put thy right hand upon his head.And his father refused, and said, I know[ it], my son, I know[ it]: he also shall become a people, and he also shall be great: but truly his younger brother shall be greater than he, and his seed shall become a multitude of nations.And he blessed them that day, saying, In thee shall Israel bless, saying, God make thee as Ephraim and as Manasseh: and he set Ephraim before Manasseh.

Thou hast turned for me my mourning into dancing: thou hast put off my sackcloth, and girded me with gladness;
