七個荒年就來了，正如約瑟所說的。各地都有饑荒，惟獨埃及全地有糧食。

饑荒非常嚴重，全地都絕了糧，埃及地和迦南地都因饑荒耗損了。

以利亞與我們是同樣性情的人，他懇切地祈求不要下雨，地上就三年六個月沒有下雨。

他命饑荒降在那地，斷絕日用的糧食，

進了肚子以後卻看不出已經進了肚子，那醜陋的長相仍舊和先前一樣。我就醒了。

在地上為自己求福的，必憑真實的上帝求福；在地上起誓的，必指着真實的上帝起誓。因為從前的患難已被遺忘，從我眼前消逝。」

那隨後上來的七頭乾瘦又醜陋的母牛是七年；那七個空心，被東風吹焦的穗子也一樣，都是七個荒年。

住在基列的提斯比人以利亞對亞哈說：「我指着所事奉永生的耶和華－以色列的上帝起誓，這幾年我若不禱告，必不降露水，也不下雨。」

於是迦得來到大衛那裏告訴他，問他：「你要國中有七年的饑荒呢？或是你在敵人面前逃跑，被追趕三個月呢？或是在你國中有三日的瘟疫呢？現在你要考慮思量，我怎樣去回覆那差我來的。」

以利沙曾對他救活的孩子的母親說：「你和你的全家要起身，往你可住的地方去住，因為耶和華已令饑荒降在這地七年。」

讓他喝了，就忘記他的貧窮，不再記得他的苦楚。

約瑟給長子起名叫瑪拿西，因為他說：「上帝使我忘了一切的困苦和我父的全家。」

我對你們說實話，在以利亞的時候，天閉塞了三年六個月，遍地有大饑荒，那時，以色列中有許多寡婦，

當時饑荒遍滿了全地，約瑟就開了各處的糧倉，賣糧食給埃及人。埃及地的饑荒非常嚴重。
