七個荒年就隨著來了，正如約瑟所說的。各地都有饑荒，但埃及全地還有糧食。

當時全地都沒有糧食，因為饑荒極其嚴重；埃及地和迦南地都因饑荒的緣故而衰竭。

以利亞和我們同樣是人，但他用禱告來祈求不要降雨，果然地上三年零六個月沒有降雨。

他召來饑荒降到那地，斷絕了一切糧食供應。

雖然吃進了肚子，卻看不出已經吃進去了，因為牠們醜陋的樣子仍與先前一樣。我就醒了。

在地上為自己祝福的，必藉著真實的神為自己祝福；在地上起誓的，必指著真實的神起誓；因為先前的患難已被忘記，從我眼前被隱藏了。

那隨後上來的七頭乾瘦醜陋的母牛是七年，那七個被東風吹焦的空癟穗子也是七年，都是七個荒年。

迦得就來見大衛，向他傳告說：「你要國中遭受饑荒七年，或被敵人追逼逃亡三個月，還是國中有瘟疫三天呢？現在你要想好，看看我應該怎樣回話給派遣我來的那一位。」

讓他喝了就忘記自己的貧窮，不會再記起自己的勞苦。

約瑟給長子起名為瑪拿西，因為他說：「神使我忘了我一切的苦難和我父的全家。」

我真的告訴你們：在以利亞的那些日子裡，天空閉塞了三年六個月，遍地有大饑荒，那時，在以色列有許多寡婦；

那時饑荒遍及了整個地面。約瑟打開了各處的糧倉，售糧給埃及人，因為埃及地的饑荒非常嚴重。
