七年饑荒就隨著來了，正像約瑟所說的一樣。各地都有饑荒，只有埃及全地仍有糧食，

那時，遍地都沒有糧食，因為饑荒非常嚴重。埃及地和迦南地的人，因為饑荒的緣故都餓昏了。

以利亞是與我們性情相同的人；他懇切祈求不要下雨，地上就三年零六個月沒有雨；

他命令饑荒臨到那地，斷絕了一切糧食的供應。

牠們吃了以後，卻看不出牠們是吃掉了肥牛，因為牠們醜陋的樣子仍是與先前一樣。我就醒了。

所以，在地上為自己求福的，必憑著真實的神求福；在地上起誓的，必憑著真實的神起誓。因為先前的患難都已經被人忘記了，也從我的眼前隱藏了。

那接著上來的七頭又消瘦又醜陋的母牛是七年，那七個不結實、被東風吹焦了的麥穗也是七年，都是七年饑荒。

提斯比人以利亞，就是從基列的提斯比來的（按照《馬索拉文本》，“從基列的提斯比來的”作“基列的寄居者”;現參照《七十士譯本》翻譯）先知，對亞哈說：“我指著我所事奉永活的耶和華以色列的神起誓，這幾年若是沒有我的命令，天必不降露，也不下雨。”

於是迦得來見大衛，問他說：“你要國中三年（按照《馬索拉文本》，“三年”作“七年”；現參照《七十士譯本》翻譯；參代上21:12）的饑荒呢？或是要在你敵人面前逃跑，被追趕三個月呢？或是要國中有三天的瘟疫呢？現在你要想想，決定我該用甚麼話回覆那差我來的。”

以利沙告訴那婦人（她的兒子曾被以利沙救活），說：“你和你全家要動身，離開這裡，住在你可以寄居的地方，因為耶和華宣布了將有饑荒，這饑荒要臨到這地七年。”

讓他喝了，就忘記自己的貧窮，也不再記念自己的煩惱。

約瑟給長子起名叫瑪拿西，因為他說：“神使我忘記我所有的困苦，以及我父的全家。”

我對你們說實話，當以利亞的時候，三年六個月不下雨（“不下雨”原文作“天閉塞”），遍地大起饑荒，那時以色列中有許多寡婦，

當時饑荒遍及全國，約瑟就開了所有的糧倉，把糧食賣給埃及人，因為埃及地的饑荒非常嚴重。
