約瑟對他說：「夢的解釋是這樣的：三根枝子就是三天。三天之內，法老要抬起你的頭，使你官復原位；你仍會把法老的杯子遞在他的手中，像你先前作司酒長時的慣例。當你境遇好轉的時候，求你記念我，以恩慈對待我，在法老面前提起我，把我救出這監牢。因為我實在是從希伯來人之地被拐來的，就是在這裡我也沒做過什麼事，致使他們把我關在這地牢裡。」司膳長見約瑟解得好，就對他說：「我也做了一個夢，在夢中，看哪，有三個裝餅的籃子在我頭上！最上面的籃子裡，有為法老烤的各樣食物，但飛鳥卻從我頭上的籃子裡吃那些食物。」約瑟就回應說：「夢的解釋是這樣的：三個籃子就是三天。三天之內，法老要抬起你的頭，把頭從你身上取去，然後把你掛在木頭上，而飛鳥將要從你身上吃你的肉。」

後來，那些米甸人把約瑟賣到埃及，賣給了法老的一個內臣，護衛長波提乏。

於是約瑟的主人把約瑟拿下，關進監獄，就是王的囚犯被囚的地方。約瑟就在那裡坐牢。

約瑟被帶下埃及。有一個埃及人，是法老的內臣、護衛長波提乏，從那些帶約瑟下來的以實瑪利人手中買了他。
