He said,“ What pledge should I give you?”“ Your seal and its cord, and the staff in your hand,” she answered. So he gave them to her and slept with her, and she became pregnant by him.

He said,“ What should I give you?”“ Give me your official seal and the string that it hangs from,” she answered.“ And give me your walking stick.” So he gave them to her. Then he slept with her. And she became pregnant by him.

He said,“ What pledge shall I give you?” She replied,“ Your signet and your cord and your staff that is in your hand.” So he gave them to her and went in to her, and she conceived by him.

“ What kind of guarantee do you want?” he replied. She answered,“ Leave me your identification seal and its cord and the walking stick you are carrying.” So Judah gave them to her. Then he had intercourse with her, and she became pregnant.

He said,“ What pledge shall I give you?” And she said,“ Your seal and your cord, and your staff that is in your hand.” So he gave them to her and had relations with her, and she conceived by him.

Then he said,“ What pledge shall I give you?” So she said,“ Your signet and cord, and your staff that is in your hand.” Then he gave them to her, and went in to her, and she conceived by him.

And he said, What pledge shall I give thee? And she said, Thy signet and thy cord, and thy staff that is in thy hand. And he gave them to her, and came in unto her, and she conceived by him.

“ What should I give you?” he asked. She answered,“ Your signet ring, your cord, and the staff in your hand.” So he gave them to her and slept with her, and she got pregnant by him.

And he said, What pledge shall I give thee? And she said, Thy signet, and thy bracelets, and thy staff that[ is] in thine hand. And he gave[ it] her, and came in unto her, and she conceived by him.

He said,“ What pledge should I give you?” She replied,“ Your seal, your cord, and the staff that’s in your hand.” So he gave them to her and had sex with her. She became pregnant by him.

He said,“ What pledge will I give you?” She said,“ Your signet and your cord, and your staff that is in your hand.” He gave them to her, and came in to her, and she conceived by him.

As she was being brought out, she sent her father-in-law this message:“ I am pregnant by the man to whom these items belong.” And she added,“ Examine them. Whose signet ring, cord, and staff are these?”Judah recognized them and said,“ She is more in the right than I, since I did not give her to my son Shelah.” And he did not know her intimately again.

“ But the father told his servants,‘ Quick! Bring out the best robe and put it on him; put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet.

Promiscuity, wine, and new wine take away one’s understanding.

“ As I live”— this is the LORD’s declaration—“ though you, Coniah son of Jehoiakim, the king of Judah, were a signet ring on my right hand, I would tear you from it.
