And he said,“ I will send a young goat from the flock.” So she said,“ Will you give me a pledge till you send it?”

犹大说：“我从羊群里取一只山羊羔，打发人送来给你。”他玛说：“在未送以先，你愿意给我一个当头吗？”

犹大说：“我从羊群里取一只小山羊，派人送来给你。”她玛说：“在未送之前，你能给我一个信物吗？”

犹大说：“我从羊群里取一只小山羊，派人送来给你。”她玛说：“在未送之前，你能给我一个信物吗？”

犹大回答说：“我会从羊群中取一只山羊羔送给你。”她玛问道：“羊还没有送来以前，你给我什么作抵押呢？”

犹大说：“我从羊群中拿一只小山羊送给你。”他玛说：“在你没有送来以前，你可以留些东西作为保证吗？”

犹大说：“我会从羊群中送一只小山羊来。”塔玛尔说：“在你送来之前，你能不能给个信物？”

猶大回答說：「我會從羊群中取一隻山羊羔送給你。」她瑪問道：「羊還沒有送來以前，你給我什麼作抵押呢？」

猶大說：“我從羊群中拿一隻小山羊送給你。”他瑪說：“在你沒有送來以前，你可以留些東西作為保證嗎？”

猶大說：『我把羣羊中一隻山羊羔送來。』他瑪說：『在未送來以前，你要不要給個當頭？』

猶大說：「我會從羊群中送一隻小山羊來。」塔瑪爾說：「在你送來之前，你能不能給個信物？」

曰、必遺羣中山羊之羔、曰、羔未至、與質否、

曰、必遣山羊之羔。曰、以何為質而待羔至。

曰、我於群中以山羊之羔遺爾、曰、爾未遺羔之先、當予我以質、

“ I’ll send you a young goat from my flock,” he said.“ Will you give me something as a pledge until you send it?” she asked.

“ I’ll send you a young goat from my flock,” he said.“ Will you give me something that belongs to you?” she asked.“ I’ll keep it until you send the goat.”

He answered,“ I will send you a young goat from the flock.” And she said,“ If you give me a pledge, until you send it—”

“ I’ll send you a young goat from my flock,” Judah promised.“ But what will you give me to guarantee that you will send the goat?” she asked.

“ I will send you a young goat from my flock,” he replied. But she said,“ Only if you leave something with me until you send it.”

He said, therefore,“ I will send you a young goat from the flock.” She then said,“ Will you give a pledge until you send it?”

And he said, I will send thee a kid of the goats from the flock. And she said, Wilt thou give me a pledge, till thou send it?

“ I will send you a young goat from my flock,” he replied. But she said,“ Only if you leave something with me until you send it.”

And he said, I will send[ thee] a kid from the flock. And she said, Wilt thou give[ me] a pledge, till thou send[ it]?

He replied,“ I’ll send you a young goat from the flock.” She asked,“ Will you give me a pledge until you send it?”

He said,“ I will send you a young goat from the flock.” She said,“ Will you give me a pledge, until you send it?”

Men make payment to all harlots, but you made your payments to all your lovers, and hired them to come to you from all around for your harlotry.

And Judah sent the young goat by the hand of his friend the Adullamite, to receive his pledge from the woman’s hand, but he did not find her.

And it came to pass, about three months after, that Judah was told, saying,“ Tamar your daughter-in-law has played the harlot; furthermore she is with child by harlotry.” So Judah said,“ Bring her out and let her be burned!”When she was brought out, she sent to her father-in-law, saying,“ By the man to whom these belong, I am with child.” And she said,“ Please determine whose these are— the signet and cord, and staff.”

So the master commended the unjust steward because he had dealt shrewdly. For the sons of this world are more shrewd in their generation than the sons of light.

Take the garment of one who is surety for a stranger, And hold it as a pledge when it is for a seductress.
