兩年後，押沙龍的工人在以法蓮附近的巴力·夏瑣剪羊毛，押沙龍邀請王的眾子去那裡。他去見王，說：「我的工人正在剪羊毛，請王和眾臣僕跟我一起去吧。」王說：「我兒，我們不必都去打擾你。」押沙龍再三邀請，王還是推辭了，但他為押沙龍祝福。押沙龍說：「倘若王不去，求你叫我兄弟暗嫩去吧。」大衛說：「何必要他同去呢？」但押沙龍再三懇求，王就讓暗嫩和其他王子一同去了。押沙龍吩咐僕人說：「你們要留意，當暗嫩喝得正高興的時候，我叫你們殺他，你們就要動手。不要畏縮，要剛強勇敢！因為這是我的命令。」押沙龍的僕人就照命令把暗嫩殺了。王的眾子都起來騎上騾子逃走了。

大衛在曠野得知拿八正在剪羊毛，就派十個部下到迦密去見拿八，吩咐他們以他的名義向拿八問安，對拿八說：「願你和你全家平安，願你一切順利！我聽說你正在剪羊毛。你的牧人與我們在迦密的時候，我們沒有欺負過他們，他們沒有丟過任何東西。你問問你的僕人就知道了。請你恩待我的部下，因為今天是好日子，求你隨手賞一點東西給晚輩我和我的部下。」
