弓箭手将他苦害，向他射箭，逼迫他。

惟独恨弟兄的，是在黑暗里，且在黑暗里行，也不知道往哪里去，因为黑暗叫他眼睛瞎了。

我们从前也是无知、悖逆、受迷惑、服侍各样私欲，和宴乐，常存恶毒嫉妒的心，是可恨的，又是彼此相恨。

无故恨我的，比我头发还多；无理与我为仇、要把我剪除的，甚为强盛。我没有抢夺的，要叫我偿还。

只是看不中该隐和他的供物。该隐就大大地发怒，变了脸色。

他哥哥们都嫉妒他，他父亲却把这话存在心里。

耶西就打发人去叫了他来。他面色光红，双目清秀，容貌俊美。耶和华说：“这就是他，你起来膏他。”撒母耳就用角里的膏油，在他诸兄中膏了他。从这日起，耶和华的灵就大大感动大卫。撒母耳起身回拉玛去了。

“世人若恨你们，你们知道，恨你们以先已经恨我了。你们若属世界，世界必爱属自己的；只因你们不属世界，乃是我从世界中拣选了你们，所以世界就恨你们。

但我的仇敌又活泼又强壮，无理恨我的增多了。

约瑟做了一梦，告诉他哥哥们，他们就越发恨他。

耶稣的弟兄就对他说：“你离开这里上犹太去吧，叫你的门徒也看见你所行的事。人要显扬名声，没有在暗处行事的；你如果行这些事，就当将自己显明给世人看。”因为连他的弟兄说这话，是因为不信他。

他们远远地看见他，趁他还没有走到跟前，大家就同谋要害死他，彼此说：“你看！那做梦的来了。来吧！我们将他杀了，丢在一个坑里，就说有恶兽把他吃了。我们且看他的梦将来怎么样。”流便听见了，要救他脱离他们的手，说：“我们不可害他的性命”；又说：“不可流他的血，可以把他丢在这野地的坑里，不可下手害他。”流便的意思是要救他脱离他们的手，把他归还他的父亲。约瑟到了他哥哥们那里，他们就剥了他的外衣，就是他穿的那件彩衣，把他丢在坑里；那坑是空的，里头没有水。
