不要像該隱，他屬於那惡者，殺了自己的弟弟。他為什麼殺弟弟呢？因為他自己的行為是惡的，而他弟弟的行為是義的。

弓箭手苦害他，向他射箭，逼迫他。

但那恨自己弟兄的，就是在黑暗裡，並且在黑暗裡行走，也不知道自己往哪裡去，因為黑暗使他的眼睛瞎了。

其實，我們從前也是無知、悖逆、被迷惑的，做各種欲望和享樂的奴僕，活在惡毒和嫉妒中，是可憎惡的，又彼此相恨。

無故恨我的人，比我的頭髮還多；無理與我為敵、要除盡我的人，實在強盛。我沒有搶奪什麼，竟然必須償還！

卻沒有看重該隱和他的供物。該隱就極其惱火，他的臉沉了下來。

他的哥哥們都嫉妒他，他父親卻把這話存在心裡。

耶西就派人去把他帶來；他面色紅潤，雙目清秀，樣貌英俊。耶和華說：「起來膏抹他，就是這個人！」於是撒母耳拿起裝膏油的犄角，在他兄弟們當中膏抹了他。從那天以後，耶和華的靈就大大臨到大衛。撒母耳起身回拉瑪去了。

「這世界如果恨你們，你們應當知道，世界在恨你們之前已經恨我了。如果你們屬於這世界，世界會把你們做為屬自己的來愛；但是，因為你們不屬於這世界，而是我從世界中揀選了你們，所以世界就恨你們。

我的仇敵活躍強盛，無故恨我的人眾多。

約瑟做了一個夢，告訴了他的哥哥們，他們就更加恨他。

耶穌的弟弟們對他說：「你離開這裡到猶太去吧，好讓你的門徒們也能看到你所做的事。因為人不會又想要出名，又在隱祕中做事。你既然要做這些事，就把自己顯明給世人看吧！」原來連他的弟弟們也不信他。

他們從遠處看見了他。在他靠近之前，他們就圖謀要置他於死地。他們彼此說：「看哪，那個做夢的來了！來吧！我們現在就把他殺了，丟在一個坑裡，然後說有惡獸把他吃掉了；我們倒要看看他的夢將來會怎樣！」魯本聽見後，要救約瑟脫離他們的手，就說：「我們不可奪取他的性命。」又對他們說：「不可殺人流血！可以把他丟進這曠野的坑裡，只是不可向他下手。」魯本這樣說，是要救約瑟脫離他們的手，把他帶回父親那裡。約瑟來到哥哥們那裡，他們就剝去了他的袍子，就是他身上的那件彩色袍子；然後抓住他，把他丟進坑裡。那坑是空的，裡面沒有水。
