大卫与那些人说话时，他的大哥以利押听见了，以利押就对大卫发怒，说：“你为什么下来这里呢？你把旷野里那些小羊交托给谁了？我知道你的狂傲和恶意，你下来就是为了看打仗！”

不要像该隐，他属于那恶者，杀了自己的弟弟。他为什么杀弟弟呢？因为他自己的行为是恶的，而他弟弟的行为是义的。

弓箭手苦害他，向他射箭，逼迫他。

但那恨自己弟兄的，就是在黑暗里，并且在黑暗里行走，也不知道自己往哪里去，因为黑暗使他的眼睛瞎了。

其实，我们从前也是无知、悖逆、被迷惑的，做各种欲望和享乐的奴仆，活在恶毒和嫉妒中，是可憎恶的，又彼此相恨。

无故恨我的人，比我的头发还多；无理与我为敌、要除尽我的人，实在强盛。我没有抢夺什么，竟然必须偿还！

却没有看重该隐和他的供物。该隐就极其恼火，他的脸沉了下来。

他的哥哥们都嫉妒他，他父亲却把这话存在心里。

耶西就派人去把他带来；他面色红润，双目清秀，样貌英俊。耶和华说：“起来膏抹他，就是这个人！”于是撒母耳拿起装膏油的犄角，在他兄弟们当中膏抹了他。从那天以后，耶和华的灵就大大临到大卫。撒母耳起身回拉玛去了。

“这世界如果恨你们，你们应当知道，世界在恨你们之前已经恨我了。如果你们属于这世界，世界会把你们做为属自己的来爱；但是，因为你们不属于这世界，而是我从世界中拣选了你们，所以世界就恨你们。

我的仇敌活跃强盛，无故恨我的人众多。

约瑟做了一个梦，告诉了他的哥哥们，他们就更加恨他。

耶稣的弟弟们对他说：“你离开这里到犹太去吧，好让你的门徒们也能看到你所做的事。因为人不会又想要出名，又在隐秘中做事。你既然要做这些事，就把自己显明给世人看吧！”原来连他的弟弟们也不信他。

他们从远处看见了他。在他靠近之前，他们就图谋要置他于死地。他们彼此说：“看哪，那个做梦的来了！来吧！我们现在就把他杀了，丢在一个坑里，然后说有恶兽把他吃掉了；我们倒要看看他的梦将来会怎样！”鲁本听见后，要救约瑟脱离他们的手，就说：“我们不可夺取他的性命。”又对他们说：“不可杀人流血！可以把他丢进这旷野的坑里，只是不可向他下手。”鲁本这样说，是要救约瑟脱离他们的手，把他带回父亲那里。约瑟来到哥哥们那里，他们就剥去了他的袍子，就是他身上的那件彩色袍子；然后抓住他，把他丢到坑里。那坑是空的，里面没有水。
