All his sons and daughters came to comfort him, but he refused to be comforted.“ No,” he said,“ I will continue to mourn until I join my son in the grave.” So his father wept for him.

But he said,“ My son shall not go down with you, for his brother is dead, and he is the only one left. If harm should happen to him on the journey that you are to make, you would bring down my gray hairs with sorrow to Sheol.”

And the elders of his house stood beside him, to raise him from the ground, but he would not, nor did he eat food with them.

Now when Job’s three friends heard of all this evil that had come upon him, they came each from his own place, Eliphaz the Temanite, Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite. They made an appointment together to come to show him sympathy and comfort him.

Thus says the Lord:“ A voice is heard in Ramah, lamentation and bitter weeping. Rachel is weeping for her children; she refuses to be comforted for her children, because they are no more.”

In the day of my trouble I seek the Lord; in the night my hand is stretched out without wearying; my soul refuses to be comforted.

But we said to him,‘ We are honest men; we have never been spies.

And Israel said,“ It is enough; Joseph my son is still alive. I will go and see him before I die.”

While Israel lived in that land, Reuben went and lay with Bilhah his father’s concubine. And Israel heard of it. Now the sons of Jacob were twelve.The sons of Leah: Reuben( Jacob’s firstborn), Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, and Zebulun.The sons of Rachel: Joseph and Benjamin.The sons of Bilhah, Rachel’s servant: Dan and Naphtali.The sons of Zilpah, Leah’s servant: Gad and Asher. These were the sons of Jacob who were born to him in Paddan-aram.

If you take this one also from me, and harm happens to him, you will bring down my gray hairs in evil to Sheol.’“ Now therefore, as soon as I come to your servant my father, and the boy is not with us, then, as his life is bound up in the boy’s life,as soon as he sees that the boy is not with us, he will die, and your servants will bring down the gray hairs of your servant our father with sorrow to Sheol.

Then Laban answered and said to Jacob,“ The daughters are my daughters, the children are my children, the flocks are my flocks, and all that you see is mine. But what can I do this day for these my daughters or for their children whom they have borne?
