All his sons and daughters came to comfort him, but he refused to be comforted.“ No,” he said,“ I will continue to mourn until I join my son in the grave.” So his father wept for him.

雅各說：「我的兒子不可與你們一同下去；他哥哥死了，只剩下他，他若在你們所行的路上遭害，那便是你們使我白髮蒼蒼、悲悲慘慘地下陰間去了。」

他家中的老臣來到他旁邊，要把他從地上扶起來，他卻不肯起來，也不同他們吃飯。

約伯的三個朋友－提幔人以利法、書亞人比勒達、拿瑪人瑣法－聽說有這一切的災禍臨到他身上，各人就從本處約會同來，為他悲傷，安慰他。

耶和華如此說：在拉瑪聽見號咷痛哭的聲音，是拉結哭她兒女，不肯受安慰，因為他們都不在了。

我在患難之日尋求主；我在夜間不住地舉手禱告；我的心不肯受安慰。

我們對他說：『我們是誠實人，並不是奸細。

以色列說：「罷了！罷了！我的兒子約瑟還在，趁我未死以先，我要去見他一面。」

以色列住在那地的時候，呂便去與他父親的妾辟拉同寢，以色列也聽見了。雅各共有十二個兒子。利亞所生的是雅各的長子呂便，還有西緬、利未、猶大、以薩迦、西布倫。拉結所生的是約瑟、便雅憫。拉結的使女辟拉所生的是但、拿弗他利。利亞的使女悉帕所生的是迦得、亞設。這是雅各在巴旦‧亞蘭所生的兒子。

現在你們又要把這個帶去離開我，倘若他遭害，那便是你們使我白髮蒼蒼、悲悲慘慘地下陰間去了。』我父親的命與這童子的命相連。如今我回到你僕人－我父親那裏，若沒有童子與我們同在，我們的父親見沒有童子，他就必死。這便是我們使你僕人－我們的父親白髮蒼蒼、悲悲慘慘地下陰間去了。

拉班回答雅各說：「這女兒是我的女兒，這些孩子是我的孩子，這些羊羣也是我的羊羣；凡在你眼前的都是我的。我的女兒並她們所生的孩子，我今日能向他們做甚麼呢？
