约伯的三个朋友，提幔人以利法、书亚人比勒达、拿玛人琐法，听说有这一切的灾祸临到他身上，各人就从本处约会同来，为他悲伤，安慰他。

耶和华如此说：“在拉玛听见号啕痛哭的声音，是拉结哭她儿女，不肯受安慰，因为他们都不在了。”

我在患难之日寻求主；我在夜间不住地举手祷告；我的心不肯受安慰。

以色列住在那地的时候，流便去与他父亲的妾辟拉同寝，以色列也听见了。雅各共有十二个儿子。利亚所生的是雅各的长子流便，还有西缅、利未、犹大、以萨迦、西布伦。拉结所生的是约瑟、便雅悯。拉结的使女辟拉所生的是但、拿弗他利。利亚的使女悉帕所生的是迦得、亚设。这是雅各在巴旦亚兰所生的儿子。

现在你们又要把这个带去离开我，倘若他遭害，那便是你们使我白发苍苍、悲悲惨惨地下阴间去了。’我父亲的命与这童子的命相连。如今我回到你仆人我父亲那里，若没有童子与我们同在，我们的父亲见没有童子，他就必死。这便是我们使你仆人我们的父亲白发苍苍、悲悲惨惨地下阴间去了。

拉班回答雅各说：“这女儿是我的女儿，这些孩子是我的孩子，这些羊群也是我的羊群；凡在你眼前的都是我的。我的女儿并她们所生的孩子，我今日能向他们做什么呢？
