我們對他說：『我們是誠實人，不是奸細。

以色列說：「好，我的兒子約瑟還活著！在我死之前，我要去見他。」

以色列在那地居住的時候，魯本去與他父親的小妾碧荷同睡；以色列也聽到了這事。雅各有十二個兒子：莉亞的兒子是雅各的長子魯本，還有西緬、利未、猶大、以薩迦和西布倫。拉結的兒子是約瑟和便雅憫。拉結的婢女碧荷的兒子是但和拿弗他利。莉亞的婢女悉帕的兒子是迦得和亞設。以上是雅各的兒子，是他在巴旦-亞蘭生的。

如果你們再把這個從我面前帶走，要是有災禍臨到他，你們就使白髮蒼蒼的我悲悲慘慘地下陰間去了。』「現在如果我回到你僕人我父親那裡，而那少年沒有與我們在一起，既然我父親的命與那少年的命相連，我父親見那少年不在了，就必會死。這樣，你僕人們就使你僕人我們的父親，一個白髮蒼蒼的老人，悲悲慘慘地下陰間去了。

拉班回應雅各，說：「女兒們都是我的女兒，孩子們都是我的孩子，羊群也是我的羊群，你所看見的一切都是我的。我今日能為我的女兒們和她們所生的孩子做些什麼呢？
