他家中的老侍从站在他旁边，要把他从地上扶起来，他却不肯，也不与他们一起吃饭。

约伯的三个朋友，提幔人以利法、书亚人比勒达、拿玛人琐法，听到这一切降在他身上的灾祸，就各从自己的地方出发，相约而来对他表同情，安慰他。

耶和华这样说：“在拉玛听见有声音，是痛哭哀号的声音；拉结为她的儿女哀哭，不肯受安慰，因为他们都不在了。”

我在患难的日子寻求主，我整夜举手祷告，总不倦怠，我的心不肯受安慰。

我们对他说：‘我们是诚实人，并不是间谍。

以色列说：“够了！约瑟我的儿子还在；在我还没有死以前，我要去看看他。”

以色列在那地居住的时候，流本竟去与他父亲的妾辟拉同睡；这事以色列也听见了。雅各共有十二个儿子。利亚的儿子有：雅各的长子流本，以及西缅、利未、犹大、以萨迦和西布伦。拉结的儿子有：约瑟和便雅悯。拉结的婢女辟拉的儿子有：但和拿弗他利。利亚的婢女悉帕的儿子有：迦得和亚设。这些都是雅各在巴旦．亚兰所生的儿子。

现在你们又要把这个从我面前带去，如果他遇到不幸，你们就使我这个白发老人，悲悲惨惨地下阴间去了。’我父亲的命与这孩子的命，是相连在一起的。现在我回到你仆人我的父亲那里，如果没有孩子与我们在一起，他一见没有孩子，就必定死；这样，你仆人们就使你仆人我们的父亲，这个白发老人，愁愁苦苦地下阴间去了。

拉班回答雅各，说：“这些女儿是我的女儿；这些孩子是我的孩子；这些羊群也是我的羊群。其实你眼所见的一切都是我的。但我今日向我的女儿和她们所生的孩子，能作什么呢？
