So when the Midianite merchants came by, his brothers pulled Joseph up out of the cistern and sold him for twenty shekels of silver to the Ishmaelites, who took him to Egypt.

The traders from Midian came by. Joseph’s brothers pulled him up out of the well. They sold him to the Ishmaelite traders for eight ounces of silver. Then the traders took him to Egypt.

So when the Ishmaelites, who were Midianite traders, came by, Joseph’s brothers pulled him out of the cistern and sold him to them for twenty pieces of silver. And the traders took him to Egypt.

So when the Midianite merchants passed by, Joseph’s brothers pulled him out of the cistern and sold him to the Ishmaelites for twenty pieces of silver. The Ishmaelites then took Joseph to Egypt.

He sent a man before them— Joseph— who was sold as a slave.

“ And the patriarchs, becoming envious, sold Joseph into Egypt. But God was with him

Then the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the Lord. So the Lord delivered them into the hand of Midian for seven years,and the hand of Midian prevailed against Israel. Because of the Midianites, the children of Israel made for themselves the dens, the caves, and the strongholds which are in the mountains.So it was, whenever Israel had sown, Midianites would come up; also Amalekites and the people of the East would come up against them.

And Joseph said to his brothers,“ Please come near to me.” So they came near. Then he said:“ I am Joseph your brother, whom you sold into Egypt.But now, do not therefore be grieved or angry with yourselves because you sold me here; for God sent me before you to preserve life.

And they sat down to eat a meal. Then they lifted their eyes and looked, and there was a company of Ishmaelites, coming from Gilead with their camels, bearing spices, balm, and myrrh, on their way to carry them down to Egypt.

And she bore him Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak, and Shuah.

Now the Midianites had sold him in Egypt to Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh and captain of the guard.

Now the priest of Midian had seven daughters. And they came and drew water, and they filled the troughs to water their father’s flock.

They killed the kings of Midian with the rest of those who were killed— Evi, Rekem, Zur, Hur, and Reba, the five kings of Midian. Balaam the son of Beor they also killed with the sword.And the children of Israel took the women of Midian captive, with their little ones, and took as spoil all their cattle, all their flocks, and all their goods.

and said,“ What are you willing to give me if I deliver Him to you?” And they counted out to him thirty pieces of silver.

“ Take vengeance on the Midianites for the children of Israel. Afterward you shall be gathered to your people.”So Moses spoke to the people, saying,“ Arm some of yourselves for war, and let them go against the Midianites to take vengeance for the Lord on Midian.

Then I said to them,“ If it is agreeable to you, give me my wages; and if not, refrain.” So they weighed out for my wages thirty pieces of silver.And the Lord said to me,“ Throw it to the potter”— that princely price they set on me. So I took the thirty pieces of silver and threw them into the house of the Lord for the potter.

Then was fulfilled what was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet, saying,“ And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the value of Him who was priced, whom they of the children of Israel priced,

Then Gideon said to them,“ I would like to make a request of you, that each of you would give me the earrings from his plunder.” For they had golden earrings, because they were Ishmaelites.

The multitude of camels shall cover your land, The dromedaries of Midian and Ephah; All those from Sheba shall come; They shall bring gold and incense, And they shall proclaim the praises of the Lord.

And the name of the Midianite woman who was killed was Cozbi the daughter of Zur; he was head of the people of a father’s house in Midian.

Then the men of Israel said to Gideon,“ Rule over us, both you and your son, and your grandson also; for you have delivered us from the hand of Midian.”

Deal with them as with Midian, As with Sisera, As with Jabin at the Brook Kishon,

“ Harass the Midianites, and attack them;
