When they sat down to eat their food, they looked up and saw a caravan of Ishmaelites coming from Gilead. Their camels were carrying spices, balm, and myrrh down to Egypt.

Then I said to them,“ If it seems good to you, pay me my wages, but if not, forget it.” So they weighed out my payment– thirty pieces of silver.The LORD then said to me,“ Throw to the potter that exorbitant sum at which they valued me!” So I took the thirty pieces of silver and threw them to the potter at the temple of the LORD.

Then what was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet was fulfilled:“ They took the thirty silver coins, the price of the one whose price had been set by the people of Israel,

Gideon continued,“ I would like to make one request. Each of you give me an earring from the plunder you have taken.”( The Midianites had gold earrings because they were Ishmaelites.)

Camel caravans will cover your roads, young camels from Midian and Ephah. All the merchants of Sheba will come, bringing gold and incense and singing praises to the LORD.

The name of the Midianite woman who was killed was Cozbi daughter of Zur. He was a leader over the people of a clan of Midian.

The men of Israel said to Gideon,“ Rule over us– you, your son, and your grandson. For you have delivered us from Midian’s power.”
