Then Midianite traders passed by. And they drew Joseph up and lifted him out of the pit, and sold him to the Ishmaelites for twenty shekels of silver. They took Joseph to Egypt.

So when the Midianite merchants came by, his brothers pulled Joseph up out of the cistern and sold him for twenty shekels of silver to the Ishmaelites, who took him to Egypt.

The traders from Midian came by. Joseph’s brothers pulled him up out of the well. They sold him to the Ishmaelite traders for eight ounces of silver. Then the traders took him to Egypt.

So when the Ishmaelites, who were Midianite traders, came by, Joseph’s brothers pulled him out of the cistern and sold him to them for twenty pieces of silver. And the traders took him to Egypt.

The people of Israel did what was evil in the sight of the Lord, and the Lord gave them into the hand of Midian seven years.And the hand of Midian overpowered Israel, and because of Midian the people of Israel made for themselves the dens that are in the mountains and the caves and the strongholds.For whenever the Israelites planted crops, the Midianites and the Amalekites and the people of the East would come up against them.

So Joseph said to his brothers,“ Come near to me, please.” And they came near. And he said,“ I am your brother, Joseph, whom you sold into Egypt.And now do not be distressed or angry with yourselves because you sold me here, for God sent me before you to preserve life.

Then they sat down to eat. And looking up they saw a caravan of Ishmaelites coming from Gilead, with their camels bearing gum, balm, and myrrh, on their way to carry it down to Egypt.

She bore him Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak, and Shuah.

Meanwhile the Midianites had sold him in Egypt to Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh, the captain of the guard.

and said,“ What will you give me if I deliver him over to you?” And they paid him thirty pieces of silver.

“ Avenge the people of Israel on the Midianites. Afterward you shall be gathered to your people.”So Moses spoke to the people, saying,“ Arm men from among you for the war, that they may go against Midian to execute the Lord’s vengeance on Midian.

Then I said to them,“ If it seems good to you, give me my wages; but if not, keep them.” And they weighed out as my wages thirty pieces of silver.Then the Lord said to me,“ Throw it to the potter”— the lordly price at which I was priced by them. So I took the thirty pieces of silver and threw them into the house of the Lord, to the potter.

Then was fulfilled what had been spoken by the prophet Jeremiah, saying,“ And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of him on whom a price had been set by some of the sons of Israel,

And Gideon said to them,“ Let me make a request of you: every one of you give me the earrings from his spoil.”( For they had golden earrings, because they were Ishmaelites.)

A multitude of camels shall cover you, the young camels of Midian and Ephah; all those from Sheba shall come. They shall bring gold and frankincense, and shall bring good news, the praises of the Lord.

And the name of the Midianite woman who was killed was Cozbi the daughter of Zur, who was the tribal head of a father’s house in Midian.

Then the men of Israel said to Gideon,“ Rule over us, you and your son and your grandson also, for you have saved us from the hand of Midian.”

Do to them as you did to Midian, as to Sisera and Jabin at the river Kishon,

“ Harass the Midianites and strike them down,
