Jacob and all the people with him came to Luz( that is, Bethel) in the land of Canaan.

And they struck the city with the edge of the sword, but they let the man and all his family go.And the man went to the land of the Hittites and built a city and called its name Luz. That is its name to this day.

And Jacob said to Joseph,“ God Almighty appeared to me at Luz in the land of Canaan and blessed me,

From there he moved to the hill country on the east of Bethel and pitched his tent, with Bethel on the west and Ai on the east. And there he built an altar to the Lord and called upon the name of the Lord.
