示剑的众人和伯特米罗人都聚集起来，到示剑橡树旁的望楼那里，立亚比米勒为王。

那一天，约书亚就与众民立约，在示剑为他们订立律例和典章。约书亚把这些话都写在神的律法书上；又拿一块大石头，立在耶和华圣所旁边的橡树下。

基甸又对他们说：“我有一个要求：请把你们各人夺得的耳环给我。”原来敌人都戴金耳环，因为他们是以实玛利人。他们回答：“我们愿意给你。”于是铺开一件外衣，各人把夺得的耳环丢在上面。基甸所要的金耳环，共重约二十公斤金子，此外还有米甸王身上的月牙圈、耳坠和紫红色的衣服，另外还有骆驼颈项上的链子。基甸用这些金子做了一个以弗得，安置在他的城俄弗拉；后来以色列众人都在那里随从以弗得行了邪淫，因此这就成了基甸和他全家的网罗。

她在拜众巴力的日子，向他们烧香，佩戴耳环首饰，打扮自己，跟随她那些爱人，却把我遗忘，所以我必惩罚她。”这是耶和华说的。

又把他们所做的那牛犊拿过来，用火焚烧，磨到粉碎，撒在水面上，让以色列人喝。

到那日，人必把那些自己所做、供自己敬拜的金偶像和银偶像，抛给田鼠和蝙蝠。

你们却要这样待他们：拆毁他们的祭坛，打碎他们的神柱，砍下他们的亚舍拉，用火焚烧他们的雕像。

他们的神像，你们要用火焚烧；神像上的金银，你不可贪爱，也不可据为己有，免得你因此陷入网罗；因为这是耶和华你的神厌恶的。

你要抛弃你那些包着银的雕像和镀了金的铸像，如同污秽之物一般抛弃它们，又对它们说：“去吧！”

亚伦对他们说：“把你们妻子和儿女戴在耳上的金环摘下来，送来给我。”全体人民就把他们耳上的金耳环都摘下来，送来给亚伦。亚伦从他们手中接过来，用雕刻的工具雕刻，铸造了一个牛像；他们就说：“以色列啊，这就是你们的神，就是把你从埃及地领出来的那位。”
